Well, we have no idea how talented he is. We know he's got an unbelievable work ethic because he wouldn't be here if he didn't We know he's got good size for the league.

No idea of the talent level, and whether that size and work ethic can be developed into a real NFL talent. Interesting little experiment. I intend to keep an open mind to this kid.

He played at the Sr Bowl against all of the top prospects and more than held his own

He picked up three backup offensive lineman while we have at minimum two starters who should be backups. The offensive line has been ignored for a whiiiiile which is why we have a bunch of stopgaps in there at this point.

Next year we need to get a pro bowl offensive lineman. Very few franchises win playoff games without any. Go back and look it up.

Congrats Raiders on Arden Key, He really slid so much.:... we would have really been seen as idiots to take a potential pass rusher over a 25 year old from a D2 school playing against 20 year olds. I'll enjoy shephards 1-3 sacks per year as is typical of all jets d line men

If you're expecting a bunch of sacks out of an DT that's on you, not the player. It's like being pissed off a FB isn't a 1000 yard rusher.

Key had a lot of off the field issues...if you hated Sheldon or Robby, you really don't want to bring in another guy with off the field issues.

One of my favorite parts of the draft is when people pretend they know that one 3rd round pick is going to be better than another.

Maybe we shouldn’t have draft discussions at all then?

IDK, from what I can tell, the Jets got a top 50ish player? Who knows how he turns out, but it's pretty silly to be particularly passionate one way or the other on draft night about a 3rd round pick you haven't even seen play.

Didn’t say that. All I’m saying is it’s rarely a good look in retrospect when you deem one guy something and another guy something else when in reality, your shot at projecting ONE third round pick’s future is pretty low.

You can complain all you want. That is your prerogative. I'm gonna see if this dude can play. But the idea that this is not a work in progress and that pick makes any kind of big difference and is something to be upset about is sad. Good football players make up good teams. You can look that up.

That is why I have always said DT should always be reserved for late rounds or when you have the option of taking a luxury pick, Corner, Edge, Oline, Te, and even WR are bigger needs.

He is supposed to be a pass rushing specialist DT so you are telling me to not except sacks out of a pass rushing DT, he isn't that great at run stopping so what should I expect from this 3rd round 25 year old ? A couple of pressures ?

Ok? And there’s teams that construct their teams better than others. I’m not complaining. It’s a fact that this team places no emphasis on having good to great offensive lineman.

Playoff teams do not have shotty offensive lines. It’s just how the league works. This particular third round pick isn’t the sole reason for that but it’s a microcosm.

We signed an overpriced corner to an absurd contract after signing overpriced corners for the past decade instead of targeting the two best offensive lineman available (one of which is only 25).

We do everything to make things harder on young offensive skill players including quarterback by using stopgap offensive lineman.

Just like how this franchise dismantled Sanchez’s supporting cast from year 3 to 4. We swapped out what 4/5 of his top receiving targets and a runningback from the year prior?

This team doesn’t have Brick and Mangold anymore. We better look to find their replacements soon or there won’t be any offensive stability, quarterback or not.

It was payback for Drew Pearson's rant at last year's draft in Philly.

That’s what forums are for bruh. Who do you think will be better, Key or Shepherd? Just because the question wasn’t posed doesn’t mean that’s not what we’re all doing here tonight; speculating.

Fair enough. Whack on both players sides. And any player doing that is dumb.

There is a good chance key will be Mo 2.0 a fat lazy bastard when given a pot of cash, I would rather chance the work ethic in this scenario tbh and hope that our guy thinks I have maybe 7-8 good years at doing myself proud.

TBH I expect a DII DT to get swallowed up by NFL centers and guards until he proves otherwise. I'm mostly ignorant about the players being drafted so take it fwiw - just telling you what I expect since you asked.

Good point. I don’t think think Key was the answer honestly. He’s slowed down from his spectacular first two seasons. And he played so well those first two years at 225-235.

Speed kills in college from a pass rushing perspective. Speed without strength in the NFL gets pushed around like a rag doll. Just like the last LSU pass rusher that flopped Barkevius Mingo.

I agree and understand the frustration. I wanna let it play out over the long haul. I don't believe that he doesn't value the OL. They did an about face in their approach after the '16 season and there was a ton of work to do across the whole roster. It's basically only been a year. I find it hard to believe that he would position himself for Darnold and not know that he needs to protect him. He can't make up for previous regimes and Woody's nincompoopery in one year or that pick. I'm not saying he will I just choose to wait and see
