Chicago would be really stupid to hire him. They need a guy to work with Cutler. Rex would be a disaster there because while he would improve the defense some... (can't get any worse) he would ruin anything good they had on offense and practically end any chance they had at salvaging Cutler. San Francisco would be a bad fit as well for the very same reasons with Kaepernick. Atlanta would not be a bad fit though.
In that case 50/50 on TV...if I were him and had the choice I'd take the TV gig. Pays probably not quite as good, at least initially, but much lower stress, less travel, and much better job security if you're any good at it and Rex has plenty of personality so he'd probably make a good fit. I might go so far as to say, just in terms of personality, he could get to being Maddenesque in terms of relative quality if he refines himself a little.
I think Rex would be great on TV. I think you are right about the lower stress levels and maybe they have more time to spend with their family. Bill Cower and John Gruden hasn't returned to coaching yet, so it's something.
It won't leave town until Johnson sells the team..in fact it just rolled in for a repeat performance.
He has already said he won't ever be a DC again..besides he can write his own ticket for any TV job he wants, they are all salivating over him already.
I think the difference maker is that Cowher and Gruden have the ring. It's pretty easy to enjoy the TV gig when you don't have anything else to prove. (Except maybe that you can do it again.)
While I am semi-curious where Rex Ryan goes, I am just glad he's gone. No need to rip him at this point, its time to move on. I am 1000x more focused on who we get as a GM and subsequently a new coach.
Revis would love to have Rex join the Patriots as DC. And Belichick knows how good Rex is as a DC. Matt Patricia sucks anyway.
Personally I think the Bears are the best option for him. His dad is a fucking legend in Chicago and that is a town and organization that loves defense. They can handle his brashness. I can tell you that while Atlanta may seem like a better chance to win, but his personality won't go over well there.
Bears or Atlanta. He doesn't need to touch the offense in Atlanta. In Chicago he would probably get Forte the ball a bit more which is good. Both defenses would immediately get better and that's what they want and need
