Discussed in the death pool thread. He and Nesmith were the two "real" musicians in the group, to the point where Tork was urged to try out for the show by his friend Stephen Stills (obviously very very much a "real" musician) after the latter was turned down for having bad teeth (they had both been part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene). Stills ended up doing alright, forming Buffalo Springfield the next year. Tork actually claimed that Jones was a good drummer, and the performing lineup should have actually been him on guitar, Nesmith on bass, Jones on drums, and Dolenz the front man. Nesmith and Dolenz both always said that while the other three pretty much played themselves on the show, Tork was nothing at all like the lovable dummy he played (Tork had developed that persona back in the Village as a folk singer that he used to interact with the audience). RIP.
Nesmith’s Mom invented Liquid Paper and sold it for $50 million back when $50 million was $50 million.
Nah, it was worth a lot more. Digging a bit deeper, the sale was made in 1979 for $47.5 million which my handy dandy inflation calculator says is now worth a cool $165.8 million as of 2018. She was also due royalties which may still be continuing. Not bad for something she mixed up in her own kitchen from things she had around the house.
Geezuz fuck. It was a time value of money joke. You didn’t need to quote from the article what $47.5 million in 1979 is worth today.
Hilarious. The conversion (not from any article) was just a sidebar if anyone was interested. Sorry to upset you. Geezuz fuck.
