If Bills scored a TD on the jets and they go for a 2 point conversion but a Jets player intercepts it and runs down the field for a TD. Does that count as a TD for the Jets or do the Jets get 2 points extra?
i believe the play is still live and anything goes. Like a FG kick that falls short and a players stands back and catches...he's good to run it back.
Based on the rules adopted by the NFL on May 19, 2015, the defensive team running back an intercepted pass on a two point conversion will be awarded 2 points. 2 points would also be awarded on a blocked extra point kick run back by the defensive team.
After scoring a touchdown, the offensive team can choose whether to: go for one extra point (PAT kick) with the ball at the 15-yard line instead of the 2-yard line; or ‘go for two points’ from the 2-yard line. In the past, the ball was placed at the 2-yard line for both the PAT kick or the two-point conversion. *If the offense has the kick blocked, or the two-point try is fumbled or intercepted, the defense could run the ball back to the opposite end zone for two points. It said it was only for 2015. I could not find anything for 2016.
Yes, my source said for 2015 and nothing about going forward. I would have to assume that since the rule was changed for 2015, it would still be in effect until the rule is specifically changed.
It wasn't provisional. It was a rule change. And absolutely a good one. Cant believe we kicked that bullshit lay-up for so long. Our grandkids won't believe it. What a waste of time. oh, you hit a grand slam! That's three runs! And if you can run all the way around the warning track without your helmet falling off, you get a fourth run!
Six. The same as a fumble, it's a loose ball, clock continues to run; there is no clock during a point(s) after attempt.
You're right, it was a rule change, but I seem to remember them saying they would try it for a year to see how it went. However, if they decided they wanted to revert back to the original rule, or maybe a different PAT format, they would have to change the rule again. Hope they keep it.
Pretty sure the blocked extra point return is only worth one. I remember this because it wasn't possible to have a score of 1 in an NFL game until that rule change. It is now, but no one has done it yet.
6 Points. Extra points are precisely that, i.e., they come after a TD. A FG is an attempt to score in lieu of a TD. Think of it like an interception or fumble return or a blocked punt. If the defense scores, it's a TD.
Yes, thank you. I misspoke, I was wondering about blocked EP. I've seen blocked EP, but I don't ever recall anyone scoring from one. Two points.
According to my source it's 2 points for a return of a blocked extra point kick as well. In fact, Stephone Anthony of the Saints is credited as being the first player to score defensive 2 points on a blocked EP kick on 12/6/15 vs Carolina.
