Surprised there isn't already a thread on him. I'm hoping we sign Cousins and draft Nelson! He will be a perennial Pro-Bowler in the Zach Martin mold (another guy I really wanted for the Jets). http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...-Mindset/080cc440-697c-42ea-b90a-1c647f7d4023
Yeah... I've started moving in this direction in my mind for awhile now. I'm decided for sure at this point. If we are lucky enough to land Cousins and have a "free" pick at #6 I just watched this guys combine video and interview.... we just gotta get this guy. Offensive line is so important and this guy just strikes me as an absolute foundation that everything else can be built off of for years and years to come.
I'd prefer Barkley too but there is no way that I can honesty see him falling to 6. Nelson would be a fine pick and would help our O/Line immensely.
We need a LG like Nelson particularly with the new zone blocking scheme that Bates will allegedly implement. Carpenter has been good but he seems like more of a traditional power man blocker. If Jets draft Nelson I wonder if they could trade Carpenter since he's on a pretty friendly 2018 cap # of $6.8M but a salary of just $4.5M. Not saying they would get much but maybe an extra 5th or 6th instead of outright cutting him.
I'd love Barkley as well, just assuming he won't be there.. If we come out of the draft with Nelson or Barkley, with Cousins already rostered, I'd be one excited fan.
Could go all-offense: sign Cousins, draft Nelson and with the two 2nds, Will Hernandez at #37 and a RB at #49. .
Wouldn't mind that at all, although I might go with a RB and Billy Price in round 2, even if we need to redshirt Price in 2018. And of course add Jensen in FA.
Gotta keep an eye on Price after his partial pec tear during the combine bench (along with Arkansas' Frank Ragnow and his high ankle sprain). If both emerge healthy after post-op, imho I'd go with Ragnow.
Hernandez is going in round one after the workout he had. If we could trade down and get our hands on Buffalo's first rounders he might be a good value at #21. Not sure how big the gap is between Nelson and Hernandez but they both look very good.
I like it. I'd been thinking about this almost exact same tactic except substituting one of the big WRs for Will Hernandez. After watching some clips of Hernandez though I think your idea might be even better if he's available. Absolutely hilarious watching the highlights of him just neutering defenders. He looks like he's got a bright career ahead of him.
Based on what I've been reading, Hernandez is now likely to go in the 1st round, not the 2nd, but it would be awesome to be able to land him in the 2nd.
I think it's almost a lock that the top 5 picks are Barkley, Chubb, 2 QBs & a wildcard (most likely QB3).
I really like this. Pay Cousins and be done with it. 30 mio per year? 35? Pay it! We need to not worry about the QB. And then adding a freeagent Center, a freeagent WR like Watkins, Nelson at #6 and another OL in round 2. It would be a whole new offense.
