It's looking like it will be a very rough year. If the Jets finish with the top pick and Jimmy Garapapalo becomes a free agent, what is the move?

Draft a qb at #1 or sign him to a massive deal and draft something else at #1?

This may be a real choice come March.

Garrapalo will be just as good as every other Brady back up that left the nest.

This is only a scenario in the sick world we live in as Jets fans. I'm clinging to the hope that one day the light bulb will come on and the Jets will prioritize getting themselves a true stud franchise QB and then gasp.. prioritize surrounding him with talent on offense.

IMO there would be nothing to decide. The Jets should draft the best QB they can and forget that Garrapolo is available.

If Garoppolo's good, the Pats won't let him go. If the Pats let him go, he isn't good. So I'd stay away.

Kirk Cousins would be the only QB I would go after in FA

If JG has other options, why would he come here?

This guy gets it. If we pay Cousins next year we can use our pick on LT, OLB, or trade down for extra picks / players.

True, but no one should wanna take the risk. Matt Cassel was the only QB backing up Brady that left that was half decent but really not that great after all. It may sound like I know everything which I don't but I really believe all QB's out of NE are system QBs even Brady to an extent. Which is why they fail time and time again on other teams. Brady has had one team and one coach his entire career and benefitted heavily from that.

    the
For sure....we need a solid QB...we don't need the next coming of Manning although I would not argue with it lol. Look at Dallas...Prescott looked like a pro bowl QB because of a solid RB and great OL play. Kizer in Cleveland will be the same to a lesser extent but Cleveland has a very good Oline And he will look pretty good as long as they get good RB producion.

Cousins would probably be an upgrade, but is he really a FQB? If there was a guy coming out in 2018 that was a "peyton Manning" type, I would rather take him than go with Cousins. I don't want a guy who can take them to the playoffs...I want a guy who can carry them all the way. Cousins would cost them a ton in draft picks that they desperately need, in addition to getting a FQB, so I would pass on Kirk.

Cousins will be an unrestricted free agent. He will not require picks. You take those picks, and you can really acquire more high picks, in the process fix the offensive line. Cousins, is a pretty solid quarterback with the right pieces. He's definitely a top 10 qb. Could have a Drew Brees like effect in the right offense.

Ask the chiefs how they feel about their $50M they shelled out in 2009 for Cassell (played for NE in 2008 the year Brady was hurt)--yes, that Matt Cassell who since has bounced around the league and is the journeyman's journeyman.

You're right, I forgot about him being a UFA. Still, I'm not real high on him. If he was so good, he would be starting. Besides, as you pointed out he needs "the right pieces", and the Jets - even with a bunch of high draft picks and decent cap room (and signing him would take a big chunk out of that pot) are a long way from having "the right pieces".

Stay away from Garapapalo. If the Patriots won't sign him and keep him around in case Brady retires or get's hurt. Plus the Matt Cassel effect too. He was thought to be the second coming and has been floating around the league ever since.

You think he can take a team to the next level. He had some weapons in Washington and couldn't deliver under some good coaches.

If he was so good he would be starting? Huh? Dude read up on why the Skins haven't resigned Cousins. Btw I am well aware the Jets need alot of pieces. You'll take that high pick and turn it into a several impact players.

Jets will have a lot of cap space next year, Cousins needs to be an option as well as the qbs in the draft.
