Actually the problem seems to be San Diego. Dan fouts had the same issue back in the 80s and he didn't have nearly the competition rivers had. Maybe it's a curse. As for weak divisions. The pats went 16-0 in 2007 I don't think it's any less of a feat because they had a 9 game cushion for wiggle room.
Decided to stop in and say it's awesome how Rivers' was able to bounce back and really help his career out. The Chargers team itself is a great reversal from the Norv years, but it's very interesting how Rivers' has looked. After 2010, in 2011 and 2012 it looked like SD wasted their Rivers window and that Rivers would never be that top QB. Then he had that great bounce back year last year. (using general terms, QB's always get more blame but Rivers wasn't terrible in 2011 or 2012, he just wasn't as great as he was in the past) He was in conversation for second best QB last year and was easily top 5. They had the "upset" against CIN last year in the playoffs after sneaking in and almost pulled off the Denver upset. If you want to place blame remember the defense that let up the 3rd and long to Peyton Manning and his weak arm that ended the game. The whole SD offense was just fun to watch last year: Led the league in yards per drive 2nd in the league in points per drive led the league in TOP per drive and plays per drive 4th in the league for TDs per drive first in the league in least 3 and outs per drive What was also interesting was that SD was basically last in pace and PHI first and both teams saw success last year. It's always fun to see how different strategies are executed and can be successfully, especially polar opposites like PHI and SD in regards to pace.
they also played a very difficult non div sched that year. the point is SD didn't have any competition in that division for many years. nah, he's the best. he torched a bad Jets D in the beginning of October. That must mean he's not a hall of famer and one of the 10 best QBs of all time.
