Its always "Next Year" for the Jet OLine.. Been that way since Brick and Mangold. Oh well.. Just another draft year come and gone in Jet Nation. Can't wait for them to add day 1 talent to the OLine "next year". Hell, they might trade all their picks so they can get an DT or an edge rusher or DE. Can't ever have too many DT's, DE's or OLB's.
For a little more context, if you want to take fan opinions as meaning anything: Spencer Long: Bright spot due to stepping up and playing well, but allowed to leave because he isn't worth starter money and another player they have ended up being an upgrade over him. Solid backup, nothing special. Travis Swanson: Looked good until he had severe concussions. Not entirely clear if his brain is functional anymore.
A bit peculiar we didnt draft olinemen...We really need help there or Josh McCown is going to get obliterated and Darnold will get sacked a ton. Maybe Undrafted kids or free agency still?
The O-line is not great, but it is not as bad as some Jets fans say. Beachum is an okay LT. Carpenter used to be a good LG, I think he can play better than the last couple years. Long is a solid Center and HUGE upgrade over Johnson. Winters is a good RG who was hurt last year. Hopefully he is healthy now. Shell was a really solid RT last year and should only get better. Depth: Ijalana sucks for sure, Swanson is a pretty solid back-up Center, Qvale isn't great, but solid backup. Same with Harrison and Dozier. So clearly can be improved, but also not as horrendous as some people think.
We have no top talent on our line, that scares me, almost have to take a O line first round next year.
I came into this draft the same as last year and the year before we have always needed a QB but we have all said it for years we need an OLB and we need O lineman,,,,,,,we drafted none,,,,,,again,,,,,,,unreal
Hercules Mata'afa needs to be a jet, I don't give a fuck about character concerns he has a motor get him in UDFA, akrum Wadley also, Deontay Burnett too
Wait till next year... or the year after that.... or several years after that..Or until we have a new FO/CS in place.
They can still pick up an OL when teams start to release players in pre-season. Am however disappointed we didn’t get one OL though
I think you can only do so much in the draft. He picked a franchise QB, added to the d-line, added a future nickel CB, TE, and a kick returner. Pretty solid to me. You want to address everything at once, but it does not work that way. O-line will need to be addressed in 2019 and beyond for sure.
I think the poster you replied to is just frustrated that the OL hasn't been addressed early in the draft during any of Mac's 4 years as GM.
strange to take two DTs and not a single OL player - ah well cant fix the team in one draft - I am guessing OL will have to come next year
I don't think he was a scheme fit. I think he may be better in a man blocking scheme, and he's supposedly a much better run blocker than pass blocker.
