But you keep saying "like seeing chalk fly up" then when I say he didn't see it or it would have been ruled fair" you say "he should have" that doesn't change the fact that it's not a hit.

The 3rd base ump fucked up. He blew the call. Beltran's AB continued and he failed to get a hit. End of story.

Somebody close this thread already for the love of God. How many times does nyjunc have to make the same comment? 78 times? 112? 135? 199? 403? This thread on some other boards would have been closed by now because absolutely nothing is being accomplished here anymore.

it's a call an ump can't miss, there's no gray area and he still blew it. We can say we think Tarasco catches that ball b we don't know, we do know Beltran got a hit but wasn't credited w/ one b/c who knows what the ump was looking at.

This thread is like a mole on someone's face. You are talking to the person and do not want to look at the mole but cannot focus on anything but the mole.

We can say Tarasco catches the ball 999 times out of 1,000, if not more. How many times have you seen a major leaguer camp under a fly ball and drop it, without some extraordinary circumstances like gale-force winds?

An umpire making the correct call on a given play is less probable than Tarasco catching that ball.

But he did miss it, end of story. There have been millions of calls missed by umps throughout the history of the game that also have no gray area and none of them are tainted. The bottom line is the ump blew the call but Beltran continued in to at bat and failed to get a hit. That's all that matters.

I don't think 999 out of 1,000 would be accurate, I think there's a better chance he catches the ball than drops it but we'll never know. We know Beltran's hit was a hit.

There have been but very few have been as obvious as this and part of a historical game.

You're right, 999/1,000 is too low.

Following up on what Cappy said, there's a better chance the sun rises tomorrow than it not rising.
