Thankfully when I read your posts I expect the opposite to happen. Looks like Hack and Petty get a chance to compete for QB1

I can also see Petty being cut if we draft a rookie in the later rounds and he shows more promise than he does. AKA .. Peterman.

ideally, hack and petty make mccown expendable and we either have a draft pick or poach someones practice squad for a young 3rd qb.

That is not all true. There isn't a great QB hiding under a rock of course but there are options that would be watchable/interesting.

Mcclown is simply a waste of time.

He is only here so Morton can use his "system" for a year on his resume before he and everyone is on the street looking for work. I personally would not like to watch that stupid experiment.

It still would've been cheaper to hire a dedicated QB guru for Pettenberg, or a therapist, or both. I don't see this as being very helpful.

Will you knock it off with being reasonable? What are you trying to turn this place into?

This, to me, says hold the fort until we play this guy. Whether that's Hack, Petty or someone they replace Hack or Petty with is up in the air. However, with last years 4 QB conundrum I have to believe they think the guy is either Hack or Petty.

First they let Geno run free, then they sign a guy who has been a career backup/veteran stopgap when there are guys out there like Romo, Cutler who have been the guy and have been successful as the guy. McCown gets paid like a guy who will start some games but he's not being handed the keys. 6 mil sounds like halfway in to me, which must mean one of our other QBs is also halfway in.

Really I'm viewing this as Mac and Bowles looking at Hack and Petty and saying "Go get 'm Spike". A competition that's entirely possible to be achieved.

What makes you think the jets won't carry 4qbs again this year?

    Cimini:
Breakdown of Josh McCown's one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets: The $6 million is fully guaranteed. He receives $125,000 for each game in which he plays 50 percent or more of the snaps (max: $2 million). He receives another $2 million if the team makes the playoffs (with 65 percent play time). He gets another $1.5 million if they reach the Super Bowl (with 65 percent play time) and $1.5 million if they win the Super Bowl (65 percent).

    $6 million is a joke

Tell me why that beats signing a rookie QB to compete for $1 million or less

They probably don't want a rookie QB, which probably means they think they have better alternatives, which may bode well for our young QBs getting play time this year.

After last year's fiasco the only way we draft another QB this year is if we cut Petty or Hack, and with next year's QB class looking much better on paper, I think the plan is to give the youngsters a brief period with McCown as starter before turning them loose. If they show nothing, we'll have a great draft pick with a shot at Darnold, Rosen.

Tells you what direction Jets are going and what they think of the current QB's.

Had they signed Cutler they would have undoubtedly showed that they have no faith in Hack or Petty and tanking was obviously not on the table with Cutler.

On the contrary, signing McCown means we will most likely be seeing Hack this year, and that Jets will get to evaluate Hack Petty in TC. Also, this does not preclude Jets from drafting another Qb this year, or tanking and being in a position to draft Darnold or Rosen

I don't understand throwing away $6 million for the fuck of it

McCown is utter trash at this point...offers nothing for us any way you slice it

Just play 3rd year Petty over dumping 6 mill for no good reason

Hell sign Johnny Football for the vet minimum...we're not winning anyway
