What’s the difference between watching someone else play football and watching someone else play a video game or any type of game show for that matter. You’re still watching someone else participate in an activity that has nothing to do with you and investing your emotions in their outcome.
I didn’t understand this when I first saw the phenomenon start but you’re absolutely right. We watch sports for entertainment. And we are critical of sports we don’t like as in “who would watch NASCAR/Ice Dancing/Synchronized Swimming etc.” but it’s just personal preference. Some folks watch chess tournaments. I don’t play poker but I’m completely intrigued by the World Series of Poker final table. It’s no different than watching someone play a video game. I find it silly but no one should give a shit what I think. That thousands (millions?) of people watch it tells us that it’s entertainment that they enjoy. Who are we to judge?
Btw, have you ever watch the Drone Racing League? It’s crazy! And the guys aren’t actually flying in the machines. Same thing or rather one step removed from a video game.
Different strokes for different Stokes folks I get; whatever floats your boat. But losing your marbles over it to the point where you're a danger to others I don't get. https://altdriver.com/racing/kyle-busch-fan-fight/ .
well in one activity you are watching the world's greatest athletes and in the other you are watching people sit on their asses and look at a TV screen.... among many differences
The difference in the activity (athletics vs game skill) does not matter; the argument is the act of the viewer watching another person perform an activity that they find entertaining. Sport versus game is an arbitrary factor when the act of watching and rooting for the outcome is the same for the viewer. You would have to explain why someone else’s athletic skill is okay to watch and be entertained by, or watching someone else’s intelligence (Jeopardy) is okay to watch and be entertained by, but watching someone else’s video game skill is not okay to watch and be entertained by. The floor is yours...
you can like what you want I dont give a shit. You just stated there was no difference. There is a clear difference. Football players are world class athletes. Gamers are nerds sitting on a couch. That's a clear difference and that's why I prefer one over the over. I don't have to argue anything else
That’s not what I said. I specifically called out the viewers actions — the act of watching someone else perform activity. Or did you honestly think that question meant I don’t see a difference between people playing football and people playing video games and you had to point that difference out? That’s a pretty ridiculous conclusion to come to if so, not mention failing to grasp the question that was actually asked.
Idk what stupid point you were trying to make. Maybe next time make a better one and there won’t be any question what you were trying to say
Enough people clearly grasped the position. If you didn’t, the stupid in this conversation would start and end with you, which is generally par far the course with any post you make.
