I wish him the best in everything. He gave his all to the Jets and we need to put him up in the Ring of Honor. We were lucky to follow Mawae with Nick. Now we need a center who embodies some of Nick's traits.

Anchored our OL for 10 years along with Brick. Great guy, I wish him the best in retirement. Maybe he can be a scout for the Jets one day. :D

always loved Mangold as a player. We have been blessed with amazing Centers in Mawae and then Mangold. So its horrible to watch our current line play in comparison to those two guys.

I have a question though. His last game was as a Jet, so why the re-sign? totally for it just curious as to why. Its not like he went off and played for another team for a season.

    Hail!

I became a fan at the Combine watching his one on one drills and was very happy we drafted him. May have been his Pro Day. Remember him wiping the field with Peko in the Bengals games in '09. After the high ankle sprain in '11 he played under extreme pain and was handicapped. But he played. Was never quite that dominant guy after that but was still one of the best Centers. But this was the topper for me

Thanks, Mangold. Really miss his talent and leadership in that position group.

It’s probably too early for this, but there’s definitely a coaching position waiting for him somewhere. If not with the Jets, at the collegiate level. Would be great for him to pass on his tips/tricks to whomever will be the Jets’ next great center.

Agree. They both deserve to be there.

The old saying "You don't know what you've got, until it's gone" is true in many ways, but not with Mangold. We knew he was great and one of the most fun players to watch for over a decade. He was also an iron man. Any time he would remain down on the field, you knew he'd pop back up and get back in the game. Just how he was. A class act. Thanks Nick!

Did D’Brick ever retire a Jet?

I thought he retired but maybe I'm misremembering. Also to the earlier poster, we had cut Nick Mangold last year, so we needed to sign him so he could retire "as a Jet" although he was never anything else.

Early in his Jets career, Mawae may have been better, but towards the end, I'm not so sure. Mawae was more mobile, but couldn't move out big NTs. Therefore, I wasn't sad when he left. Mangold had more power, but wasn't as mobile. Still, he struggled some against big, strong NTs.

In general, I prefer man/power OLs over finesse/zone blocking OLs.

I agree that Mangold deserves to make the Ring of Honor and maybe the HOF.

We were lucky to have two lifetime Jets on the same o-line for a decade, spoiled even.

    Thanks Nick and D'Brick!

Haha, I remember all of this. He was probably saying nice things like your Mom is pretty (in a nice way) instead of typical insults that are basically abortions. Then drinking a beer near the coach he just dissed, that's impeccably delicious and rather sublime. We're kind of odd here. We're not Giants, Rangers, Yankees. We're Jets, Rangers, Yankees. Typical Queens is Jets, Mets, Islanders. Yuck on the last two. It's like telling yourself organized religion is a choice (especially Christianity), but what really happened is that you were brainwashed by your parents. GO JETS!

Now do the jets put nick and brick in the ring on the same night or do them separate? I’m torn and can see a good case for either way

Jets have been blessed at the center position, with greats like Jim Sweeney then Kevin Mawae then Nick Manhole, definitely my favorite out of all of them, Jets need to retire his number.

I hate it when a number is retired. I'd rather see new players wear it to remind me of the guys who wore it and were great.

You also get the silliness with long blocks of numbers retired like the Yankees have.
