Not sure it warrants its own thread, but apparently Kony Ealy won't be returning, as he is reportedly signing with the Cowboys. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/04/05/cowboys-agree-to-deal-with-kony-ealy/
I really liked him, and thought we found a good, solid guy. I guess his asking price was beyond the value the Jets put on him.
I liked Ealy but i won't lose any sleep over him leaving for another team. Not like we had a lot invested into him. Truth be told I'm just worried & a nervous wreck about pick #3.
We all know he erupted during the SB but the problems with paying a player such as Ealy a long term contract are one of two things. 1.) Thus far through 4 seasons he's been inconsistent from a game to game basis and 2.) He's yet to put up the type of year by year production in which screams development, growth or overall improvement. 2014: 9 tackles. 4.0 sacks. 1 forced fumble. 0 fumble recoveries. 0 passes defended. 0 INT's. 2015: 15 tackles. 5.0 sacks. 3 forced fumbles. 2 fumble recoveries. 2 passes defended. 0 INT's. 2016: 19 tackles. 5.0 sacks. 2 forced fumbles. 0 fumble recoveries. 3 passes defended. 0 INT's. 2017: 11 tackles. 1.0 sacks. 0 forced fumbles. 0 fumble recoveries. 9 passes defended. 0 INT's. Those #'s may not tell the entire story but those numbers are too similar from 2014-2017 and heading into 2018 and Imo just not enough growth from year 1 through year 4 in terms of overall impact heading into year 5. Which is probably why he's now on his 3rd or 4th team in only 5 years. He's a solid player. It's easy to see his talents. They jump out. Had a really sound rookie season. Even had a break out SB performance during his 5th postseason game (after 4 postseason games of zero production). Has only started a combined 19 games but has played in 62 out of a possible 64 games etc but imo you'd expect a little more (growth/improvement/production) out of a former 2nd rounder once heading into his 5th season; before giving out long term type of contract.
