With the Niners getting Jimmy G (man but I wish that was a deal they would have made within the conference) the Jets are now reportedly the #1 destination for Kirk Cousins after this season - what do you think? He is not a player I know much about but I did see he has been (just) a top 10 ranked QB each of the last few seasons and that alone makes him a massive upgrade over anything we have had in decades.
Good old fake news http://nypost.com/2017/10/31/the-patriots-just-cleared-the-way-for-jets-to-scope-kirk-cousins/

meh. Not the biggest Kirk Cousins guy the in the world. I would rather draft our own guy and try to develop him than overpay for a good, but not great, QB. I know that we never actually succeed in picking the right guy or developing young QBs, but I am of the mindset that, no matter what, you never stop trying to draft a franchise QB.
instant contender for the next 5 years, and doesn't stop us from drafting a qb during his time here to be the heir apparent. i'd rather gamble cash on cousins than time and picks on anyone available in this years draft
Cousin's doesn't fix our defense, our okay receiving corps, and our crappy o-line. Don't forget mediocre special teams.
Nope, but he scores enough points to mask those problems. That’s how the other teams with good qbs get by. And signing him lets us use a premium pick to fix,oh I don’t know, our crappy defense. Ps, you are under rating this wr corps
I don't know, tbh. But, regardless, you wrote "instant contender for the next 5 years." There are very few quarterbacks who I would make that statement about. To me, that is an extremely big statement. To me, that statement is equivalent to "put this guy on virtually any team in the league and they can be a wildcard team." Thus, to me, that statement only describes a select few: Brady (forgetting about age), Rodgers, maybe Luck when healthy, maybe Russell Wilson, maybe Big Ben (again, forgetting about age). Now, there a bunch of additional quarterbacks in the league right now who are not quite great, but are good enough to build a consistent winner around. I think Cousins is probably one of those guys. But, saying that he makes us an instant contender for the next five years is a bit of an exaggeration, IMO.
Good qb = instant contender in this league. That’s just the way it is now and cousins has been doing it pretty consistently for 3 years. I stand by my statement
Acquiring Cousins would truly enable the Jets to go BPA and not force a pick on a QB they are lukewarm on. The team really needs a pass rusher and some offensive lineman and getting Cousins would really take the pressure off the QB search for now.
The bold, Cousins could help mask some of that by setting protections and he's a very accurate qb can get the ball in Anderson's hands. Q will be back and hopefully Stewart steps up. Jets need to invest in the line and running game. This could be reminiscent of a Drew Brees type acquisition if the Jets play their cards right. In terms of the others, that's why you have the draft.
Maybe if Enunwa was back, things would be different. But with our roster now? Anderson has been super hit or miss. Kerley is an okay #2 but he should be in the slot. That's where he's best. The other young guys just need time to develop.
