The shit is really starting to hit the fan as reality is setting in. It seems like Mangini/Tanny do have a grasp on dire cap situation and are in the process of rectifying it. The Jets will reportedly release C/G Pete Kendall this week. Coach Eric Mangini is cleaning house on the offensive line, with T Jason Fabini also likely to hit the road. I would have liked to keep Kendall, but I guess this will help a lot with the youth movement and the cap. How much does he save on the cap?
They need to keep Mawae then. The Jets need some verteran leadership besides Curtis Martin. At least Mawae has earned his pay.
ok so if they're cutting fabini AND kendall, who the hell is going to play on the line for us??? on the bright side, hopefully this will usher in the era of d'brick...
Yeah, thats what I'm afraid of too. I really don't want to be the worst team in the league next season.
What exactly do they expect me to do with my avatar? This is the right move, Kendall being cut will save us some valuabe money. This does, however, make our offensive line extremely inexperienced.
I don't know, can it be any worse than last year? It will be a work in progress but I expect the O-Line to be a huge upgrade this year over last. These guys aren't dumb, they know a problem when they see it. Should be interesting to watch what they do....
yes, it is a shame to lose Kendall..>He was only here 2 years but I really liked him!! It's certainly time for the youth movement though
Keep in mind that we don't have to have the best offensive lineman in the league. As the Patriots have shown over and over again, you can draft lineman late in the draft and coach them up. Being a good offensive lineman isn't necessarily about being the best athlete. I'm confident that over the next two offseasons the Jets will find plenty of lineman at much more effecient prices whether it's through the draft or 2nd tier free agency. Let's be honest: Kendall has a had a solid career, but he's undersized and overpaid. And Fabini is done regardless.
We need to cut both Mawae and Curtis too, IMO. If we're going to clean house, then clean house, don't do it half assed. Ellis
if we kept this OL, then it would resemble David Carr and the Texans. Mangini and Co. are doing exactly what needs to be done. And if you think they're not going to address these holes and find quality players to play along the OL, then oh well. But I really doubt they'll just cut players and neglect the OL, a la Houston. cheers
Curtis is going to restructure, and he provides some veteran leadership and a mentor for the younger guys on the team. He's also a pretty damn good football player. NO need whatsoever to cut him. If mawae was willing to take a pay cut like cmart then I would love keeping him too, but this new FO is cutting the fat and getting rid of overpriced players. If you don't take a paycut you go.... we're finally turning the ship around, but lets not get overboard by cutting cmart, it buys us nothing.
