Tom, be thankful that he's at least doing something to try to address/upgrade the OL. Mac's philosophy (and it's the right one) is to address needs in FA so that he can try to take the best players available in the draft and not have to draft solely on need. I think there's a good chance that Mac will draft an OL in the 3rd or 4th round. We'll be having a new FQB prospect, and surely he's gonna want to keep him healthy and on the field, especially if it's Rosen. Hang in there my man!
It could mean that Long moves to OG and Carpenter goes, but I'd rather have a depth chart at C of Long/Swanson than Swanson/Harrison. I agree that it doesn't mean that it will prevent Mac from drafting Ragnow or Bozeman, and hopefully it won't!!!!
I think there is a very good chance we go edge rusher with the 3rd or 4th. Edge rushers are a luxury that are so hard to find in FA. We will get 2 injured unproven edge rushers back in Mauldin and Donahue (minus any suspension time) but I am sure he will want to add another to the mix. If he has shown anything is that he likes to to take a flier on an edge rusher each draft. That being said I would love to see us address the OL with the 3rd or 4th pick. So many needs and not enough draft picks. I am hoping the 109 million in cap space will allow us to sign a young premium OL next year that we can build around.
If one of the top C prospects such as Ragnow falls to the Jets in round 3, I hope Mac takes him. I can wait to address edge rusher next offseason.
This is a very good signing. Depending on Long to play all 16 was a fool's errand. Now we have backup and competition in camp. I'd like to see the Jets either draft a tackle in the 3rd or 4th or sign another young vet for depth at this point.
Hopefully Shell can take a step up the curve. Line gets a little better. I expect an OL pick at 3 or 4
