He was suspect with TEs and RBs in coverage. But, he didn't suck. We say the same thing when a guy spurns us lol.
I think that was part of it. You could see this one coming. Also Williamson is in his prime now as an athlete.
I'd prefer to go with the known with better stats then the unknown with lesser stats.Never heard of this guy but he can't be worse then Darron Lee
Let's not get crazy though on Davis. He played lights out last year.....for the first time in his career.
Ok I did some more digging...he basically was a 2 down LB with the Titans as on occasion they subbed him out of the game for Jayon Brown...but they posted similar coverage grades, which weren't good. There were a few games where Avery was actually very good in coverage, but it seems like he was just used to be a run stuffing demon. Being that he's 26, he's much younger and is one of the elite run stuffing LB's. My only concern is can he match Davis output, because Davis literally played every snap last year...he was the heart of the Jets defense. My guess is Williamson's role will be expanded a ton. If and its a huge IF, Davis comes back...that means Lee is moving to the outside.
I dont think Davis would match that production of his freakish year. Plus he wanted $8million year for 3+ years at the age of 29. I think it was smart to pass on that.
I think this ends Demario's tenure here. Williamson can't cover either, but he doesn't miss tackles. Lee will still be relied on.
The bolded is what I'm worried about. Williamson a nice pickup but might be a slight downgrade to 2017 Davis. It's a shame Davis looking for so much. We will need more from Lee and that worries me.
And the big money defensive additions continue. No word on improving the shaky offensive line with kneeless Teddy behind them. If they upgrade the offensive line in a big way I’ll change my thinking. Norwell’s contract would’ve been completely absorbable and a huge impact for us like Alan Faneca was. He’s a nasty player.
He's in the top half of ILBs in the league so this is a quality signing. We probably paid more than we would have Davis but Williamson is 3 years younger so it works out. After the meltdown this morning, today has been a quality day for us.
Williamson is an upgrade for a rebuilding team. He's still in primetime and Davis is about to go post-prime.
This dude couldn’t cover Trump, covered in molasses, in the early morning hours. We will continue to get absolutely fucked by the wheel routes and RBs out of the backfield. Lee is our only hope.
