Giants fans on Twitter have been telling me for a year that he's the next coming. Now he's on our practice squad! We are loaded at QB!
I wanted us to draft Webb. It doesn't make up for losing Teddy but Webb could develop into a decent player.
Like the move a lot. I distinctively remember Webb's combine performance and I thought he was in the second tier behind Mahomes.
Maybe next year. I'd be shocked if he gets off the PS at all, at least with the Jets. I could see another team signing him but McCown will be the backup all year.
Ho hum. Well I like the kid with two last names and no first name better than Wolford. Maybe he can develop into a reliable backup.
Good move. He has some ability, even if he wasn't able to show it for the Giants. Maybe the "QB Whisperer" Bowles can resurrect him. In any case, he's used to the NY situation and won't have to learn how to play/live there.
Jets sign Davis Webb after shocking Giants release By Brian Costello September 4, 2018 | 10:32am Modal Trigger Davis Webb won’t be going far for his next job. The Jets are signing the former Giants quarterback to their practice squad, according to a source. The Giants surprisingly cut Webb on Sunday, choosing to keep rookie Kyle Lauletta and Alex Tanney as Eli Manning’s backup. Webb was a third-round pick of the Giants in 2017 out of California. He has not played a snap in a regular-season game. The 23-year-old looked like he might get a chance at the end of last year, when then-Giants coach Ben McAdoo benched Manning for Geno Smith. There was a belief that Webb would play the final games of the season, but it did not happen after McAdoo was fired. The Jets currently have two quarterbacks on their active roster with Sam Darnold and Josh McCown. They signed rookie John Wolford over the weekend to their practice squad, but cut him to make room for Webb.
The Giants should have traded ELI, drafted Sam and had Webb and Sam battle it out for the starting job. ELI never gets hurt. Eli never gets hurts.ELI never gets hurt. Eli never gets hurts ELI never gets hurt. Eli never gets hurts ELI never gets hurt.
all I can say is I liked Davis Webb a lot more before watching him miss wide open WR s against us in that preseason game,,,he looked horrible
I thought he looked horrible in the preseason. Lauretta looked pretty decent for the Giants. Hopefully Webb stays on the PS
Think thats way off. The starting PS rate is something like $7,500 per week. A team can pay whatever they want though as incentive for a player to turn down another team if they come calling Macc played this perfectly. Looks like he paid Webb what he would have been paid to sit buried on someones 53 man roster so theres no incentive to move to another team and the 605K doesnt count against the cap a PS salaries are exempt. Great move
The Jets have made a quarterback swap on their practice squad, signing former Giants QB Davis Webb and terminating QB John Wolford. Webb (6'5", 230) was the Giants' third-round selection, No. 87 overall, in the 2017 draft out of California, where he played only his senior season (after the previous three seasons at Texas Tech) and completed 382 of 620 passes (61.6%) for 4,295 yards, 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Webb didn't play in any regular-season games for the Giants last season. This preseason he completed 28 of 53 (52.8%) for 283 yards and a TD. He was waived by the Giants on Sunday and cleared waivers. Wolford was undrafted out of Wake Forest this year, participated in the Jets' rookie minicamp as a tryout, then was signed Aug. 26 by the Jets and was in for 46 offensive plays in the preseason finale at Philadelphia, completing eight of 20 passes for 89 yards and an interception. He was waived the next day, then signed Monday to the Jets' practice squad.
Can’t be. Minimum NFL salary if $480k or there abouts, can’t imagine PS players make more than roster players.
