Williams, whom the Jets selected No. 6 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, led the team with 28 quarterback hits in 2018 and racked up 67 tackles as well as two sacks. For his career, the 6’5” 302-pounder has tallied 178 tackles, 12 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles. In 2016, the USC product became the youngest player to be named Curtis Martin Team MVP at 22 years old and was voted to his first Pro Bowl. Williams is entering his fourth pro season and is the team’s longest-tenured defensive lineman. “I think it’s definitely time to step up and take it to the next level. It comes with a lot and it’s not just my play on the field,” he told reporters earlier this week. “It’s my leadership, how I approach work, how much time I’m putting in outside of the mandatory hours and into my craft, my game and my teammates. I wouldn’t be a teammate if I’m the only one not working hard.”
Williams is still very young, I am hoping he can pick his game up to the next level but frankly don't see it happening unless we get him some help on that line.
Williams is a stalwart defender on the line. Just wish we had 2 or 3 more like him. That would be a blast.
Williams has been very good so far in his career..people need to stop expecting 10 sacks from interior lineman.
Leo Williams and preditcted top 10 DL Vita Vea are both 23 years old. Williams just got his 5th year NFL option picked up. Vea will be drafted on Thursday.
F The why does LW keep telling the press that he has to improve his sack total? He said it before last season & is saying the same thing again this year? Oh yes I also have him on the bubble to be another #1 draft choice flop
Yeah, maybe you will luck out and he rips his ACL and retires and you can call him an injury prone bust Is that enough tantrum faces for you ?
Yeah, this is a no-brainer. There's nothing he's shown in the first 3 years that wouldn't warrant us not picking up his option and keeping him around. He's very solid IMO and only going to get better.
He's a solid player. An All-Pro? No, but a good starter on the DL for years to come for sure. That said, he could very well take the next step, but I don't see it in 2018. Not unless he gets some help on the other side. He will be doubled all day long.
