ESPN’s worst playcaller of 2017 is our new offensive coordinator. Yes I’m well aware that he’s not going to be calling plays, but you usually don’t want someone who is considered “the worst“ having anything to do with your staff. Read up on him and his history in this league, every team that he’s played a role in has gotten worse offensively when he joined and gotten better when he left. Great hire!

Oy. I wasn't expecting this as much as some others feared. Do not want. Did not want, I should say. At least I am expecting to hear that Bates has been escorted out of the building.

I don't know why the Jets would go this way after supposedly "doing their homework". After all the Scooby Doo Brothers meddling, you'd think they'd at least look at his track record. Maybe it was because of the playcalling aspect that deterred other candidates (shrugs) so they went with someone willing to take it?

    EDIT: Cronyism as well? o_O

Since each team is supposed to HAVE an OC, I think Gase wants an OC he can keep in his place, i.e. a total "yes" man who will fetch Gase coffee. Gase IMO does NOT want anyone second guessing his play calling or offense. This OC must have done that well in Miami so Gase brought him to NY to repeat his subservient role.

Did you read it? The rate at which he used Tarik Cohen, a pro-bowler a year after Loggains left, to help his rookie QB was staggeringly low. He played 13 snaps in one game. 13!!!

He isn’t good at what he does.

Well whatever the relationship between them is, it led to the 31st ranked offense in Miami last year. We’re supposed to be ok with replicating that?

Just when I thought Gase figured out he needed to surround himself with different coaches than he had in Miami......

What about Kenyon Drake. Lets give it to the 100 year old Frank Gore when we have a shiny new Porsche waiting to be used. I've warmed a little to Gase but some things like this scare me.

I was looking for substance about his development skills. That's what the headline implied. That he didn't play Cohen could be an anomaly--we don't watch Bear games.

he beat Sam and the jets twice last season...so there's that. Give him a chance.

Surrounding your QB with the best talent available is part of developing a QB.

Cohen played in 36% of last year’s offensive snaps for the Bears. That’s unacceptable. And the 13 is barely anomaly, it wasn’t even the lowest snap count of the season. The game after his 13 snaps... he played 31, scored, and the Bears lost by 3. The game after that? 19 snaps, Bears lose 31-3 to the Eagles.

This makes sense. We all know that Gase is designing and calling the plays, so OC has little significance. It's not like the Jets needed a powerhouse OC, they needed a powerhouse DC. All in all I'm happy with the coaching changes this year. I think they got it right for once.

This does worry me because we just went through the "Buddy Hires" with Todd Bowles and Kacy Rodgers and we know how big of an epic fail that was for the Jets Defense. This looks the same, but it will hurt the Jets Offense. The one difference is we all expect Gase to have full control of the offense. So if it fails and reaches The Danger Zone, it will be on Gase instead of Kenny Loggins.

I will wait and see how it all goes in September because we don't know much until the season starts (except that the Pats will win the AFC East and probably the AFC). But if you ask me now what is my prediction for next season. I would have to go with 5-11 based on the non inspiring way this off season has begun. Nothing about Gase, Williams and now Loggains screams excitement. Maybe in a division where Belichick has won the division for a decade no one wants the gigs. We need a fast start, like scoring 48 points in the first game that will solve it all, oh wait........

Just when you think Gase is getting it right, he reminds us we're the Jets. Over-under on when Gregg Williams stuffs this guy in a locker?

Man,I thought I knew the NFL. I am really impressed that Jet fans know so much about the Dolphins OC/QB coach. Its amazing.I never even heard of him or all the college guys that Jet fans wanted for our head coach over established guys. Hats off to all of you for being so well informed. I better study up. Who should our assistant strength coach and video person be? I would think ESPN would have a list of those also. Cheers!!!
