McCarthy is the best, proven HC on the market undoubtedly. That doesn't necessarily mean he is the best though. McCarthy is the safe option, I think everyone realises that. He instantly ticks the main boxes on the Jets' wishlist - he's developed a QB (a great one, who just happens to have similar traits to Darnold, at that) and he's won. He would bring instant credibility to the team. The problem with him is all the 'like to have' boxes he doesn't really tick at all, apart from being offensive. His O hasn't developed with the times, he doesn't have the charisma to revitalise the franchise, he's a poor in game coach and he really is just a one side of the ball man.

With McCarthy you get a Darnold who likely maximises his potential and likely chance of being fairly competitive for a few years and maybe even winning something. Maybe that's the best option and maybe it's enough. It really is a pick your poison choice. The perfect candidate isn't out there. It never is, but some coaches develop into that perfect guy. That's not McCarthy though, what you see is what you get with him.

I want a guy who can develope Darnold, plain and simple, if that’s Mcarthy then so be it. I’m not interested in having 3 OC in the span of 4 years like Jets had under TB.

Mcarthy brings his own scheme and if he’s here for 4 years that’s the type of offensive consistency a young QB needs.

The one aspect of this we are not talking about is this, Mac. If he continues with his putrid drafting, it doesn’t matter what HC Jets get, they will be at bottom of the division.

My bad, I heard the reports about Kubiak and thought they meant Shanahan.

Wonder if they slept on it or negotiations are tense (with whomever they want).

I have this great fear that McCarthy is hired and brings in McAdoo as his OC

Bob McAdoo was a great offensive player until he got hurt. They could do worse ; )
