I know we are still signing free agents this year but this thread is for us to look a year ahead and see what the cap implications will be next year.

    2015 Cap Info:

    2016 cap info:

With the players we have under contract and this year's rookie class we would use about $110 mil of cap space not counting our 2016 draft class. If the salary cap does not increase next year that would leave us about $40 mil of space before our rookie class and free agents are accounted for.

Assuming Bilal Powell got a one year deal here are the guys that will become free agents next year if we do not extend them now (they are sorted and ranked by 2015 cap hit not sure who is RFA):

PLAYER Rank POS 2015 SALARY 2015 CAP HIT
    Muhammad Wilkerson 6 DE $ 6,969,000 $ 6,969,000
    Quinton Coples 13 OLB $ 1,515,381 $ 2,800,889
    Chris Ivory 14 RB $ 2,000,000 $ 2,750,000
    Damon Harrison 18 DT $ 2,356,000 $ 2,356,000
    Calvin Pace 19 OLB $ 2,125,000 $ 2,250,000
    Bilal Powell 20 RB $ 1,250,000 $ 2,000,000
    Demario Davis 23 ILB $ 1,492,000 $ 1,686,490
    Jason Babin 24 DE $ 1,350,000 $ 1,625,000
    Antonio Allen 25 CB $ 1,542,000 $ 1,542,000
    Jaiquawn Jarrett 26 S $ 1,542,000 $ 1,542,000
    Darrin Walls 28 CB $ 1,075,000 $ 1,075,000
    Curtis Brown 33 CB $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    T.J. Graham 34 WR $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Mario Harvey 35 FB $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Chris Owusu 36 WR $ 660,000 $ 660,000
    Ronald Talley 40 DE $ 600,000 $ 600,000
    Saalim Hakim 42 WR $ 585,000 $ 585,000
    Chris Pantale 43 TE $ 585,000 $ 585,000

Everything we do this year has cap implications next year

Extending players of giving out another big contract with guaranteed money now means losing free agents later.

If we plan to let Snacks leave next year there are some very good DTs we should think about signing in free agency now.

Gotta extend Wilk, try and keep Coples/Snacks around on something team friendly. Cant see us cutting Mangold just yet unless he really has a down year, pretty much no way we drop Decker either, imo.

Of course a lot rides on this season

Wilk and Snacks are guys I would like to keep.

Also Davis and Ivory would leave holes unless we sign or draft their replacements this year.

Mangold I would keep but Breno and Brick look expendable.

Cutting Cumberland now would buy us cap space this year AND next year.

The cap is going up again next season. The numbers of must signs on that list are few.

Something tells me Wilk will be extended next offseason.

A lot of room again and an increasing cap.

Didn't even notice Demario on that list, I think hes a guy that we really need to retain if for nothing other than depth. Harris isnt getting younger.

I also like Ivory but think we may be drafting his replacement this year.

We have our draft and free agency this year and next year but need to address the following:

Quarterback - top priority for 2016
Running back - we have no one locked up for more than a year
Fullback - Bohanaon could be easily upgraded in free agency
Offensive line - Mangold is a keeper and we committed to Carpenter but could be looking for 3 starters & depth
Tight End - Amaro & Cumberland
Defensive line - we have no one locked up for more than a year
Outside linebacker- we have no one locked up for more than a year
Insider linebacker - David Harris needs help
Safety - Calvin Pryor needs help
Corner - If we get Cromartie we are set
Kicker - Is Foles really worth $3 mil per year?

Brick will definitely have to work out a better deal. His play last year doesn't merit the money he's making.

QB is going to be taken care of this year with the signing of Fitz and drafting of Mariota. :p;)
FB - Does Gailey's system even use a FB? If not or only occasionally, then this is not a need or priority in any way
TE - As you suggested, this could be a big need. I agree that Cumby should go this year, but it doesn't look as if he's going to.
RB - will be a need, but that should be taken care of pretty easily as there are always good RBs available in FA and the draft.
OL - If we don't get Brick's replacement in this year's draft, that will be the #1 priority in next year's draft. It will probably necessitate trading up, so it's much better to address it in this year's draft. If we're looking for a RT too, then that will really tip the Jets' hand going into the draft. Mac has to find someone in FA next year or find solutions for both OT spots in this year's draft. I'm hoping that Dozier nails down the other starting OG spot and has a great season. They'd still have Aboushi as depth.
DL - Hopefully they will lock Mo and Snacks up. Richardson will still be under contract. Personally, I hope they retain Ellis this year, but it's starting to look like he will be gone. Hopefully he can find a FA or two. I'm tired of this team using it's first round picks on the DL. Mac needs to figure out a way to retain the players already here or find good FAs.
OLB - Unless this is addressed in this year's draft, that will be the #2 or #3 need depending upon how both OT positions are handled.
ILB - Mac will definitely need to find Harris' replacement
Safety - Hopefully, they're about to fix the FS spot with either Skrine, McDougle or Gilchrist. There is PLENTY of depth at safety. This should not be a need at all in 2016.
CB - I totally disagree that if we get Cro we are set. Revis is 31, Cro is 30 and Skrine is 29. If Milliner, McDougle and Williams don't develop, this will be a big need again next year. I don't expect Cro to be here more than a year if we re-sign him.
K - This probably will be addressed unless FOLK has another excellent season

With three solid veterans I think we can use this year to evaluate Millner & McDougle before we go into the 2016 free agency / draft.

True, but that's why I said that if they don't develop, it would be a need, but if they do, it wouldn't be a need, because Revis and Skrine could still be here.

Yeah--we gave Cumberland a good chance--can't block for shit and Jace is better at getting open and faster. Cutting him is a good move.

If we sign Cro, I think Milliner is history.
