Jeter retiring is so crazy for me to think about. Im 19 and have been watching him play for as long as I remember. Definitely the athlete I respect the most
LOL, yankees didnt need to add any players to sell out the building this year, this alone will sell it out in all likely-hood.
I love Jeter but the amount of ball washing that he'll be getting this yr is overkill IMO. The Mariano send off was way overboard, getting gifts from NL clubs? The fuck was that.
Damn the final game has tickets on stubhub for standing room $285. I bet they were half that a couple hours ago. I coulda made some cash.
Well after this retirement, you officially end the 90s Yankees group. Many figured Cano would be part of the new core Yankees going forward, but that isn't the case either.
it's a shame that you have to behave like a soulless automaton and speak in meaningless platitudes in your interactions with the public to be thought of as "classy" these days. give me more richard shermans
The Yankees need to un-retire all those numbers. Having all the single digits gone because you've been around for a century and had some great eras is silly. Monument Park and the Hall of Fame are for the ages. It's time to see #3, #4 and #5 back in play again, not to mention all the others.
Meh, I don't mind the singles being retired. It's unique to the Yankees and every single player (or coach in Joe Torre's case) is deserving of it.
I respect the hell out of Jeter but I'm not going to be able to take a full year of this constant sycophantic fawning over the guy. I wanted to vomit with the Mo stuff last year. _
My favorite player all time, Curtis is #2 then Chrebet, Bernie Williams and John Duddy. Since I was a kid my dad always had a poster of Derek Jeter in the garage. Last year, he bought a shed and the poster moved in. Jeter, is a special player that comes once in a lifetime. I think he is/will be the greatest Yankee I ever witness. Mo, obviously, is right up there with him. It's not easy playing in New York and dealing with our media. Players here are under constant scrutiny. Jeter, handled all of it, and carried the #1 American sports franchise, for what will be 20 years. Jeter, is a champion, he is a legend. The Jeter name will be remembered, for good reason, many generations after ours. He deserves all honors he will receive in the upcoming season. He is a model for sportsmanship, professionalism and American baseball.
Where did this idea of honoring other teams players with no connection to your franchise come from? Is Rivera the first one?
He won one World Series title as a coach, do you think that is why his number is retired? Ya he was a fiery skipper but he also did win 4 titles as a player.
Lololololol. That's like saying Bill Wennington won 3 NBA Championships. Do you realize he didn't play in one of those Championships? Do you know who else was on those teams? Do you think he carried the likes of Mantle and DiMaggio and Berra and Skowron and Slaughter and Howard and Bauer and Rizzuto and Larsen and Ford and Mize and Sain and Reynolds and Lopat? Billy Martin played 3-4 full years for the Yankees and was a .255 hitter. He was a freaking bat boy, a mascot, a favorite of Steinbrenner and nothing more. His number being retired is an insult to Ruth and Gehrig and Mantle and DiMaggio and Berra. It'd be like the Mets retiring Felix Millan's number. What a freaking joke. Do you kids just look at Wikipedia to come up with this stuff? _
