Start Petty on Thursday. This team needs a spark. Something. Anything. There are on the verge of a meaningless season if they lose on a short week. Find a way.
theres not enough offense, part of that is mccown, but mccown should start thursday, use the semi bye to get petty reps.
We should start Petty because this season has been meaningless the whole time and we should see what he has before it's over. But in Tampa, not on Thursday night.
So you're looking for Petty to get killed? He would have basically one day's work with the starters. Two weeks from now is plausible, but there's no chance it will happen. Four weeks from now after the bye is the latest day it could reasonably be done if the coaches have any brains, which means it's about 50/50 that the Jets will do it.
Who plays QB doesn’t even matter. We completely ignore the position for the second half. All we do is run. I don’t see why we wouldn’t play the young kids. We refuse to throw in the 3rd and 4th.
It's already meaningless..there was never a chance of the playoffs and now there isn't a chance of a good draft pick either..if they weren't enough we will probably have another year of Bowels and Macgagnan too.
Yeah, I don't know if Petty can lend much of a "spark," but this team is spinning its wheels this year. McCown this season has proven himself a solid NFL backup QB, who could be an asset to a team with playoff aspirations, but the Jets aren't one of those teams and they are going to cut one or both Petty/Hackenberg come next season. Might as well see what one or both can offer over a few weeks.
This is the last of the "competitive rebuild" playing itself out. Somehow, those marginal wins have convinced the FO and CS that this team COULD BE a playoff contender. The reality is anything but. The kids won't get any meaningful playing time this year because our HC is focused on his extension while our GM is playing lip service to the future.
More and more, I'm sure it's all about the mentality of the ownership as to why in all sanity's sake Bowles continues to waste the season away by playing a 38 year-old QB. What else can you expect from a family that made it's business on selling Q-Tips and baby oil? If Jerry Jones was the owner, McCown wouldn't even be on the team.
Jets are starting McCown, and for what? A mediocre draft pick. If we're truly rebuilding then why not find out about Petty. Meanwhile Buffalo is stockpiling draft picks by trading away headaches, yet they're 5-2. At least they're playing good defense and have an identity. The Jets have no identity, yet you'd think they would after spending all those first round picks on defense along with hiring a head coach whose forte is defense. We're mediocre, hopeless, and pretty much boring. I'm sure it's not all Bowles fault, but I want a fresh start with an offensive coach and to start drafting offense in the first round.
Can Petty play Offensive line? Oline is where we really need a spark. When McCown has time to throw, he is making plays. There are so many times that the pocket completely collapses around him. Petty struggled last year with getting the ball out quickly. I don’t see how Petty starting will help the team.
McCown has arguably been the team’s best player. I know Bowles and how he is looking at this - benching McCown is probably the last move he would make based on how this team has played this season. He is not looking to the future, and Petty/Hack aren’t it anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When they spoke the sideline reporter, she said Bowles wants to control the clock the rest of the game. It was early in the 3rd quarter and they were up by only 4. I HATE this defensive coordinator mindset. It will haunt us until we learn, which I doubt we ever will.
Today was a little different because of how bad the weather got around the start of the second half, but overall I agree that the Jets need a killer mentality.
