We picked him 6th overall and he is hardly an impact player that you would except from that draft spot, safe to chalk this up as Mac failure?
"Tough call Especially since he went right before Vic Beasley one of the best pass rushers in the league. But I guess Leo was a good signing so we could trade Mo for good draft capital and not have to pay him. Have snacks at the nose tackle and Sheldon on the other end. Great strategy by Mac to set us with a run stuff in the middle and get tons and tons of sacks from our ends " Laxg41- 2015... so how did the plan work?
If you think Leonard Williams was drafted to be a primary pass rusher and be judged based on sacks or QB pressures, you are wrong, he was a run stuffer coming out of college and plays the role of run stopper/interior gap filler for us. He is an interior D-lineman, you don't often judge the value of interior D-lineman on sacks, Harrison was notorious with us for his amazing run stuffing.
He’s not a bust, but also not that the homerun steal that people made him out to be. Beasley didn’t really fit Bowles defense so if Williams wasn’t there the Jets would probably have ended up with Kevin White so dodged a bullet there. The Adams pick was a lot worse than Williams because there were QB’s available.
Gholston is a historic Bust. Jets are just sooo desensitized to busts that you don't recognize them as busts. Member Calvin Pryor? Member Devin smiiiith? Member Hack? Member Dee milliner? Member Stephen hill? Member Quinton Coples?
If you are drafting a dline man who you know can't get sacks in the top 10 then you don't deserve to be a GM. Those picks are for the second round
Yep unless it's a Manuel geno smith type draft, in that case you draft a wr, rb or oline so your qb has weapons But under no circumstances do you draft defense first round if you don't have a qb, unless you are 100 percent sure he is JJ watt
Gm probably not but between a concensus pick on the board vs what Macc comes up with I'd bet my newly bought ceramic porg statue that the board wins
Let's do the test. Would you take A) Potential franchise qb? Or B) interior d lineman guaranteed to wrap up when a full back comes up the middle
Tough calll, lots of fb runs lately and having a fat 400 pounder stuffing those lanes is drool worthy.... But I think I will go with choice A since I'm not oblivious to how the NFL works these days
I wouldn't call him a bust. If you were to redraft the 2015 Draft I think Leonard Williams would've gone in the bottom half of the first round.
He's not a bust, he's just not being used properly. And he sure wasn't the best pick Macc could've made. After he took Williams, these players were taken: Eerck Flowers OT Vic Beasley OLB Todd Gurley RB Andrus Peat OT To name several, there were others that might've been better too. But the other thing is that Williams wasn't a NEED, he was supposedly BPA. If the Jets were already pretty well set and a playoff contender, going BPA regardless of need when you have so many needs is a luxury they couldn't afford.
