My point is that that's all because Darnold can move outside the pocket and pass effectively on the run and going to either side--not because the offensive line did anything special. Darnold had time to throw because he was 15 yards outside of the collapsed pocket, not because the pocket was protected. Running lanes were open inside because the DEs and LBs were spread out wide to get after Darnold. It's great that we are finally in a position to mask our D+ offensive line, but let's not make the mistake of thinking that makes them a B+ offensive line. Hell, if we can keep doing it, let's go for it.
There were more than a few plays that the oline was stout and gave Darnold a solid pocket to throw from. It isn't an either or equation. Oline played better than expected and Darnold did a pretty damned good job of feeling the pocket collapse and escaping/extending the play. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Yeah! Those 5 guys held up great against a 3-man rush!!! You guys are right. How could I have been so blind?????
I see a lot of free blue jerseys chasing Sam out of the pocket here, a couple of nice blocks by RBs, and a QB doing a fantastic job of getting rid of the ball very quickly. Then again, I'm obviously blind. I'm going back to enjoying the win now. If you want to believe this line is even approaching average, more power to ya.
lmao...yea ok. You pick 1 play and base a whole theory when stats and video prove otherwise while totally ignoring the fact I alrady stated about a 3 man rush...wow. But hey, glad you realized it in the end.
They were garbage today... but every show praised the o-line last week and they deserved it...so yea. This week, no.
This week I'll give the entire team credit just like last week. Credit. OK, sure; only this time it's one of those scam Best Buy gift cards where people get ripped off for thousands of dollars and get identity thefted the shit out of.
Our next three games are @Cleveland, @Jacksonville, Devener @home ... If Sam is still alive after these three pass rushing teams then they deserve a bit, but I'm worried.
Be worried, the Line that was here yesterday was the one I was worried about. The way they were pushed around was embarrassing.
TEE ,the Lions front 7 blows ,,,the Dolphins were a different animal with Wake and company,,,,I am downright afraid for Darnold against Garrett and company .
The crazy thing about it is how poised and how much pocket awareness he has now. This can easily be a career ruined if a young QB begins to get happy feet. We've seen that so many times in the NFL... The fact you would allow your Franchise QB to get destroyed in order to sell a few more tix is exactly what is wrong w/this franchise. I hope he makes it because he is the real deal.
We can easily go 0-3 over our next three games and then we still have to face the Vikings, Bears and the Colts (in no particular order). I'm hoping against some of those teams we start McCown and let him take the ass kickin. Yeah, I know that would say we have no confidence in the oline but the reality is, our oline is a work in progress and in particular the left side is manned by No-Pros. Nothing says no confidence like having your FQB run for his life on a semi regular basis. My 5-11 is looking good..
Most great QBs have played behind bad olines, that’s why they were drafted so high by those teams. Unlike Pittsburgh who makes a point of drafting olinemen high in the draft because they know the importance of protecting the QB. Most teams focus on the skilled position, WR, RB, DT, CB. Darnold needs to start, it’s up to the CS to game plan protection to keep him safe. Hopefully Mac sees how his drafting philosophy needs to change in order to keep Darnold upright and productive for this team. Mac needs to address OL in FA and the draft next year. It does not all fall on coaching a CS can’t make Carpenter or Winters into the next Munoz.
I dunno. If we're gonna start Sam against teams with monster pass rushes, we might as well just play 7 on the line bringing in extra guards reporting as TE's. Pretty risky but if you're gonna roll the dice, go with max protect, abandon the deep ball and just throw the game away in an otherwise throwaway season. The idea is the keep Sam healthy long enough to get a NFL caliber Oline in place... right?
