If we weren't Super Bowl contenders this year, I'd almost want to play them both just to see if we have a quarterback that's of any value for future seasons. But that's okay, because we're clearly Super Bowl contenders this year, so it doesn't make any sense to evaluate the QB situation.
And who's to say that sitting Hackenberg and Petty is a bad thing? Who's to say that developing/learning from the outside looking in is a bad thing? And who's to say that starting them within year #1 under a new OC/Offensive System would be a good thing for their future NFL careers? Who's to say that A.) sitting them during their 1st year under a new offensive system/coordinator before B.) adding offensive weapons through FA (with a boat load of cap space) in order to C.) Give them a fighting chance come 2018 isn't D.) The better route for both of Petty and Hackenberg?
Enough of this shit moves. Start Petty already, see what we have in him, at least I would feel better about either loosing or winning. Bench Skrine and get fucking rid of the DC. And if Bowles doesn't like it get rid of Bowles.
Agree with OP Remember when those moronic fans were happy we won worthless games early on? Zero foresight
I know. But I want it demonstrated on the field so in the off-season, when the front office says, "well we're going to go into next season giving Hackenberg and Petty a chance to win the job," I want the fanbase going nuts instead of saying, "well, they've never had a chance ... maybe they're good? The front office must see something."
Spoiler alert. Let's prove it on the field of play once and for all. We are not much better with a McCown. We have no future.
McCown has been consistently failing in crunch time, which is very weird for a veteran who is supposed to be the pillar of this young team. He has failed in his basic role. I don't want to be a hater, I've been saying he's mediocre and painfully predictable, that he takes away all that he gives.
We won't know the answer to the OPs question because we are the Jets. Any other team during their REBUILDING season would know what they have in their young QBs. Not us. We gonna roll all season with our 38 year old QB.
I wanted to start Petty from DAY ONE and I was furious when McCown got the job, but now it makes no sense to switch. I thought we could win games with Petty, and he'd get better with more playing time. But now we're still "in the mix" at 3-4 and the offense looks MUCH better than everyone expected, so there is no way on earth they make a QB change. ZERO. We'll continue to see McCown until the season spirals out of control, and that will take several more losses.
Super Bowl contenders? Dude they are aiming for top 5 in the draft right now. Petty is the better of the two and its time to see what he can do with this offense. Hackenberg will be out of football in 2 years.
The front office is clueless. Playing McCown anymore does nothing for this franchise. Its time to see what Petty can do. If you play McCown anymore then the Jets will miss out on a good draft pick next year and will be signing another journeyman QB next year. They have to know what they have in Petty. I'm pretty sure they know what they have in Hackenberg as he can't even beat out a bum like McCown.
