Lets all hope these are the last meaningfuul snaps Petty and Hackenberg take in NYJ uniform. Hackenberg is likely going to be back as the #3 next year. Dont see any scenario in which Petty is back unless they decide to dump Hackenberg. cheers Bryce... thanks for securing a top 10 pick so the Jets can replace you.
Good riddance. And I say that because Petty being gone means the brainless Petty love will follow him out the door. Brett Ratliff part 2.
Come on Brett Ratliff was a star in Cleveland! Oh wait....it really speaks volumes to how bad our QB situation is, when you latch onto someone who shouldn't even be on the practice squad in Petty.
it won't take more than a good practice report for a new man crush to develop. the backup QB is always the most popular guy with fans.
I'm hoping Mac as part of this 1 year put up or shut up extension realizes that he needs to Draft TWO QB's, not just Petty's replacement. The reason why Hack hasn't seen the field is because he's WORSE than Petty. Can you believe that? With how truly bad Petty was over the last 2 weeks, there's actually someone worse on the Jets roster.
Why? I’d rather keep the 22 year old that may have potential over the 26 who has proven he’s not an NFL starter. If your looking for a pure back up it would be best to sign a vet, but if your after someone with a chance Hack has more time and room to grow. That said I don’t see much of a future for either one of them to this point.
Yet another senseless Hack shaming. Based off of... what might I ask, the zero snaps he's taken or the zero starts he has? Now Hackenberg will likely get his first actual snaps of his career on the road, in what is estimated to be the coldest game in Foxborough history, against our division rival who is one of the best teams in the NFL this year. So he has clearly been setup to fail. If he succeeds in this situation I think it speaks volume about him as a player and where he is mentally. But if he does poorly all these Hack Haters will have plenty of fuel.
The Jets-ian way for him to go out would be for him to light up the Pats, win the game (further harming the Jets' draft position), the Jets cutting him, the Pats signing him, Brady going down in Week 7 next year, and Bryce "The King" Petty leading them to victory in Super Bowl LIII. Of course, it's more likely that he plays somewhere just above or below mediocre, leading the Jets to 10 points, before Bowles replaces him in the 4th Quarter with Hack, as Hack goes 1 for 3 passing in a Jets 42-10 loss. We will then be treated with Ira from Staten Island calling every sports radio station within 100 miles of NYC, saying he saw some good things with Hackenberg and looks forward to what he can do next season. Again, the latter is more likely than the former, but the former is much more Jets, and therefore within the realm of possibility.
haha, the latter is definitely more likely than the former. If Petty were to light up the Pats today though, I think that would earn him another shot next season.
Hackenberg bashing? That's a new one. Petty looked OK last year. Not sure what happened in the last 12 months but the lack of snaps in practice hasn't helped anything. Why keep Petty over Hackenberg? Lower salary, more in game experience, superior play in pre-season. The list goes on and on. The real question is aside from his draft slot, what is the justification for keeping Hackenberg who has failed to develop into anything at this point? Perhaps we bring them in as camp fodder and let them compete for a roster spit.
Great spot for Petty/Hack to prove something today with a wind chill of - 5 or whatever haha. This may be the justification for signing Cousins and/or drafting a Mayfield or somebody later
Brett Ratliff was a preseason star for the Jets. Despite having one of the best arms I've ever seen in a Jets uniform, he never got a chance to play here or in Cleveland. Petty, at least, got the opportunity.
When the product on the field is absolute crap (especially during the Geno Smith era) it is only natural to hope the backup QB is the answer to all of our problems as the alternative involves valuable draft picks and or csp space. There is nothing brainless about mistrusting our losing coaches and wanting or at least hoping for easy answers.
