Vikings | Hutchinson signed to offer sheet Sun, 12 Mar 2006 13:12:55 -0800 Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports free agent OG Steve Hutchinson (Seahawks) has been signed to an offer sheet worth $49 million over seven years. The deal includes $16 million in guaranteed money and holds a very high salary cap number for the first year. The Vikings are using a high cap number for the first year to prevent the Seattle Seahawks from matching the offer.
With the Vikes cap space and the news that they are loading this contract in the first year, I doubt that the Seahawks manage to match this and be players for the rest of free agency. Good move by the Vikings.
I don't think a QB is a priority now. I'm sure they're more than content with Brad Johnson as their QB. At least I would be.
I don't agree. The Seahawks are 17 million under the cap, and that includes the 6.3 million transition tender which comes off the board when Hutchinson signs a new deal. It's been reported that the Vikings made the first year cap hit 13 million to deter the Seahawks from matching, but they can easily afford that and still have 10 million in cap space. They'll match.
Transition tag, same thing except you don't get any compensation if your player leaves. A team can offer a contract and then you have 7 days to match the offer (Which the Seahawks will do.)
