The Rams are under performing their talent. Their D is abysmal after spending an absolute ton in FA. The had a great D Goff and Gurley before he showed up. The owner has a new stadium to fill with PSL paying customers. They unloaded on the cap with lots of front loaded contracts. Goff was the No. 1 pick in the draft for a reason. He has great talent around him and he is a very talented passer. What McVay has done with that D is atrocious. You have the No. 1 rushing attack in the league and a defense full of studs and they can't stop a nose bleed. It's going to cost him in the playoffs.
I'm saying balance wins championships. It doesn't take a genius with a ton of weapons on O to score points in todays NFL. A great HC usually comes from the defensive side. The two proven head coaches in the league today are BB and Tomlin. Both are from the defensive side. Both the Steelers and Pats happen to have great O's not because they have an Offensive minded Head Coach but because they have great personal coupled with a great Head coach. There is no question that the occasional loaded O or D can win an occasional championship. The last genius OC was Mike Martz. Awful head coach when he didn't have Kurt Warner, Issac Bruce, Torry Holt and Marshall Faulk along with one of the great left tackles in a generation. Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald actually made Ken Whizenhunt look like a great Head coach for 15 minutes.
Since the Pats won their first SB, the SB champs have had an offensive coach 7 times, a defensive coach 9 times (though 5 of those were the Pats), and a special teams coach once. So the argument that a great HC usually comes from the defensive side isn't true. And if you think Vrabel, after going 5-4 with a team that made the playoffs last year without him, is a better coach than McVay and Pederson, I don't know what to say. 2017 Eagles: Offense 2016 Pats: Defense 2015 Broncos: Offense 2014 Pats: Defense 2013 Seahawks: Defense 2012 Ravens: Special Teams 2011 Giants: Offense 2010 Packers: Offense 2009 Saints: Offense 2008 Steelers: Defense 2007 Giants: Offense 2006 Colts: Defense 2005 Steelers: Defense 2004 Pats: Defense 2003 Pats: Defense 2002 Bucs: Offense 2001 Pats: Defense
Out of active head coaches only BB and Tomlin have won more than 1 and Pete has been to 2. Nothing says offensive genius like the 4th ranked D and the 7th ranked O winning a SB and fighting to get to 500 the next year. The Bronco's won a SB with the 16th ranked O and No. 1 ranked D. It wasn't because of their genius Offensive minded Head coach. Nothing indicates that an offensive Head Coach gives you an edge to winning in the NFL. LA had McVay and the No. 1 O in the NFL. Atlanta went into LA in the playoffs and stopped them cold. They put up 13 points at home against a good not great Atlanta team. There is no doubt it's an offensive league. That doesn't mean that you need to be more creative on O to actually win. It might mean you need to be smarter on D to actually win. Almost every SB that isn't a blowout turns on a defensive play. Offense is a given. A stop is a game changer and unexpected. It completely changes the complexion of a game. It creates doubt and doubt is death to offensive execution. The Jets have a terrible offensive team. McVay wouldn't be a genius with this team. What he might give you is a plan to build it if the GM let him. We need a plan for personal more than anything. We need a great Head Coach but that doesn't mean we need a play caller as the head coach.
If you think Mike Tomlin’s success has anything at all to do with anything other than the absolute animal he’s had for a qb I don’t want to argue with you.
He's 1SB rings came with the No. 1 ranked D coupled with the No. 17 ranked O. He's second came with the No. 1 ranked D and the 22nd ranked O. They did lose the SB with the No. 2 ranked D and the No. 14 ranked O. You're probably right unless Rothlisberger never wins a SB without the best D in football. Sort of like Marino or better yet one of the Great offensive Head Coach QB combinations, Coryell and Fouts who had the No. 1 ranked O 3 years in a row.
Guys. This was supposed to be a joke. Nothing more, nothing less. Just get a light laughter, and move on. No analysis was intended. Nor was any insinuation or innuendo.
They should never have fired Mangini. He was forced to start Favre and when Favre sucked at the end of the season b/c of injury, Mangini was blamed.
