Going with the youth movement and adding speed to this team With our cap problems I took the tough medicine to rebuild our OL without Brick or Mangold. I was hoping to replace Powell and Cromartie with draft picks this year but BPA led me to players at other positions. We have a lot of needs for a team with tight cap space. Trade one: Giants get Mo Wilkerson, Nick Mangold, (saves $8,600,000), and Jeremy Kerley (saves $1,300,000) Jets get First Rounder (10), Third Rounder (71), fifth rounder, and 2011 first rounder Trade two: Rams get First rounder (20), Third Rounder (83), and Dee Millner (saves $2,131,424) Jets get Second Rounder (43), Second Rounder (45), and Third Rounder (76) Rd 1 10 Myles Jack ILB, UCLA ($2,528,306 cap) Rd 2 43 Christian Westerman OG, Arizona ($972,511 cap) Rd 2 45 Braxton Miller WR, Ohio State ($930,821 cap) Rd 2 51 Josh Perry OLB, Ohio State ($808,256 cap) Rd 3 71 Scooby Wright III ILB, Arizona ($638,704 cap) Rd 3 76 Jalen Smith OLB, Notre Dame ($627,523 cap) Rd 4 115 Joe Haeg OT, North Dakota St. Rd 5 Roger Lewis WR, Bowling Green Rd 5 Dan Vitale FB, Northwestern Rd 7 Kevin Hogan QB, Stanford Cuts: D'Brickshaw Fergeson LT (saves $9,873,001) Breno Giacomini RT (saves $4,375,000) Jeff Cumberland TE (saves $1,900,000) Signings: Kelechi Osemele LT 4 Yrs SB $20,000,000 Salary $4,000,000 Roster Bonus $4,000,000 cap $12,000,000 Damian Harrison DT 6 Yrs SB $21,000,000, Salary $2,500,00 cap $6,000,000 Mitchell Schwartz RT 6 Yrs SB $15,000,000 Salary $2,500,000 cap $4,000,000 Ryan Fitzpatrick QB 3 Yrs SB $10,000,000 Salary $3,333,333 cap $6,666,667 Lamar Miller RB 4 Yrs SB $16,000,000 Salary $2,000,000 cap $6,000,000 Stefen Wisnewski C 5 Yrs SB 7,500,000 Salary $2,000,000 cap $2,300,000 Bilal Powell 2 Yrs SB $1,000,000 Salary $1,300,000 cap $1,800,000 Antonio Cromartie CB 1 Yr Salary $2,000,000 Erin Henderson ILB 1 Yr Salary $1,500,000 Leger Douzable DE 1 Yr Salary $750,000 Chris Owasu WR 1 Yr Salary $750,000 Steven Ridley RB 1 Yr Salary $632,000
Man it would be brutal to see all that go to the Giants. Also seems strange to basically force through a rebuild after a huge upswing last year. Anyway everything else would be cool, I like the draft and signings although I'm pretty sure Chris Owusu is done in the NFL- another concussion and he's looking at serious damage
I'm surprised the Giants would in essence give up a first rounder (in 2011) for a thirty something year old center when the drafted one in the second round two drafts ago. I feel bad for Jerry Reese and his family; they'd probably be hunted down and murdered for making that trade. Let's face it as much as we love Mo the best we could do is Mo and our second for a high first and a conditional 4/3/2 next year. Fourth turns into a third if Mo is on the roster in 2017 and a second if he's first team pro bowl 2016 and on their roster for 2017.
The Giants OL was horrible but if I put more thought into it I could probably find a team with a bigger need for a pro bowl center. Mangold's age shouldn't matter much to the Giants since they are committed to Eli Manning and are in win now mode. Even if we needed to involve another team I think a first rounder next year is a fair price for Mangold if we did trade him. I stuck with the Giants for Mangold and Mo to keep things simpler and because I liked the players available where the Giants were picking. It is still very early but I think there are a few ideas in this draft I would like to see the Jets steal from me.
Trading star defensive and offensive linemen for 1st round pick.... Someone dreams of hastily rebuilding the Giants.
Wow..Something of a wild an unconventional Mock like Trump but look where he is Some proposals give you something to think about like trading Mo but giving Giants anything is a bit of a turn off Kudos for the research imo
If you play with the numbers the cap space is very tight. I had about $900 left and I am not sure that included money for all of the draft picks. Given more time I would have reworked one of the veteran contracts to free up a couple million so I could have added at least one TE in free agency. The poison pill contract for the left tackle forced some tough decisions.
It's cool to imagine these scenarios but they'd never happen. You are also undercutting a lot of salaries to the players that are being signed. Osemele will be looking for franchise left tackle money., to the tune of a 5-6 year deal ranging in the $50-$60 million range. Miller will probably sign a deal closer to a $7 million per year salary at this point given his low usage and dual threat capabilities. I don't think the NFL has ever seen a deal of that magnitude in which a team traded two All-Pro players among draft picks and other players while only receiving a couple of draft picks in return. Dream scenario to an extent and I'm not seeing a proper balance in the trades not to mention Myles Jack won't be there at 10, Wright is a second round prospect, It'd also be tough for this team moving forward. While we're acquiring a ton of good players,, you're fielding an entirely new roster with players needing to adjust to each other which usually results in a failed season.
Wow! I think you've been playing that draft game too much. It's biased your thinking! LOL I can't see that ever happening on any level, either the wild trades with the Giants, getting rid of Mangold and both OTs. Then you draft a FB, but not a Punter? Sorry, but not a fan.
So sue me, I was impressed with his combine results. He is very mobile for a full back. Also, a good receiver out of the backfield.
Both guys are being paid market value in the scenario I posted. I only posted the year one cap figures. I gave Osmele a $12 mil cap hit in year one of the deal to keep Baltimore from matching. Miller's deal will average out in the $7-8 mil range but starts with a lower salary / cap hit in the first year as it is backloaded.
You want team speed if darron lee falls to 20 he I versatile and fast....I think he fits perfectly with Bowles defense
Very few agents want to take a contract for their clients that are incredibly backloaded from start. With so few players ever seeing the end of their contracts it sets up a player to not receiver the big base salaries at the end of the deal. This is credibly important in Miller's case as runningbacks have zero shelf life. Runningbacks and their agents want their money as soon as they can get it. The total worth of the contracts is what's not up to par with market valye. Thint about what Brick receiver at 6 years for $60 million and it's dwarfed by the $20-$30million value you place you place on Osemele's. The contracts aren't very believeable.
The Giants OL injuries was really their main problem last year (besides Jerry and Beatty). Recall last year going into the Jet game with Weston Richburg and Justin Pugh barely practicing and Marshall Newhouse sitting out - everyone was predicting that Eli was going to get crushed. Turns out the Jets needed an assist from Tom Coughlin (passing up a chippie FG) to help pull that one out. In addition, OT Eric Flowers will have a year under his belt. When healthy, the Giants' bigger problem is their DL. As for Mangold, I don't see the Jets trading him let alone to the Giants since Weston Richburg (recent 2nd round pick out of CSU) is a good up and comer at the same position.
As soon as I seen that Giant trade, that was it for reading the rest, LOL... never happen. When was the last time the Jints traded their no1 pick?
So far everyones unrealistic mocks don't include a punter.....there's plenty of good punter prospects projected to go between rounds 5-7
Everything we hear from the Jets FO is that this team is a work in progress. They made a lot of progress last year and the expectations have to be higher. Rebuilding doesn't sound like that's where this FO wants to go right now. Team was one win from making the playoffs, now is not the time to tinker.
