Based on achievement, since he delivered our only Super Bowl win, it's Namath. But If we're talking about ability on the field, I'd say Curtis Martin on offense, and Klecko on defense.
Some of the real game changers for us: Joe Namath Joe Klecko Mark Gastineau Don Maynard Kevin Mawae Wesley Walker Darrell Revis Al Toon Larry Grantham Winston Hill Marvin Powell Larry Grantham Nick Mangold Curtis Martin Freeman McNeil Keyshawn Johnson John Abraham Mo Lewis
I came in this tread figuring no one would mention #85. Dude had some sick yards per reception, While he didn't put up huge reception totals, he was always that big play threat. Loved Him.
Curtis Martin: "I'd even rather lose with the Jets than win somewhere else." Player or coach, front office or fan, isn't that what being a part of this is all about? He got it. And the Jets need more players like him.
Ah whenever of these types posts pop up it IDs who all the youngies are vs the old timers. Certainly the winner is JWN honorable mention Maynard,Boozer,Snell & big Jawn Elliot on D
Of the Jets I saw play during their prime it was Joe Klecko. Of the ones I missed out on it was Joe Namath or Don Maynard. Not sure who helped the other more but they were both tremendous players when healthy.
He most certainly was in 2000. My vote would probably go to Curtis Martin, as he was the definition of a good soldier, a true warrior, a gentleman, and he threw that pass to Chrebet to shut up Meshawn in 2000 - my single favourite moment as a Jets fan.
Has to be Namath. His SB contribution as well as his present contributions to the team and the NFL. He gets involved and is not afraid to speak his mind. When he checked Dikta that did it for me, as well as a few of his interviews. Yes, he had been accused of some dirty granpa stuff and had a few too many sips but should that diminish his life's work? Human beings err...seems like he has done a great job dusting himself off and trying again. I respect that.
Not the greatest Jet ever, but a great player to be sure, Kevin Mawae, who was a finalist for the Hall of Fame this year, unfortunately did not get in in his fourth year of eligibility. The five modern era players who got in were S Brian Dawkins, LB Ray Lewis, WR Randy Moss, WR Terrell Owens, and LB Brian Urlacher. All worthy, but I would put Mawae as more deserving than Urlacher, and of course Owens has all sorts of baggage.
Seriously Thank you all for supporting Namath..he and the Jets were a wonderful part of my childhood in Brooklyn I do hope we have more famous Jets and SB victories over the next 50 years ...but even the Great One prob has his doubts
Namath. Before him, the Jets were considered a clown show just one step above semi-pro, and the AFL was seen as a collection of misfits and NFL rejects. Namath put both the Jets and the AFL on the map.
Who was that Coach ??? Joe Walton... is he dead ?? Maybe he can become our new OC from the Nursing Home via Skype?? I don't think I have seen an Offense like that for this team in 10 years.. Holy Time Is Flying Batman!!!!
Joe Walton is still alive. He coached at Robert Morris University for 20 years, until 2013. He lives in Beaver Falls, Pa. (home town of you know who).
