Part of the disparity is that this is such a good class and the Jets have the death sentence for unified opinions: options.

I see Allen as #5 but I also see him as a top 15 pick in the first round. #5 sounds bad, but top 15 is most certainly not.

There is certainly some hate happening but honestly the Jets need to find and draft the right fit for this team and they'll probably end up ok this year.

This as opposed to getting the best QB in the draft in the second round and that QB being Geno Smith. This isn't that sort of draft.

That's one way to look at it. People like to compare this to the 1983 Draft (Elway, Blackledge, Kelly, Eason, O'Brien, Marino), and that's fine, but I think it's closer to the 1999 Draft (Couch, McNabb, Akili Smith, Culpepper, Cade McNown).

The most likely outcome is neither one is true.

    Darnold
    Rosen
    Allen
    Mayfield

We'll see. From the Jets perspective, they've failed for so long with this position that I give Mac all the credit in the world for making a ballsy and aggressive move to get into position early to finally secure an answer there.

Three 2nd round picks sounds like a lot to give up, but again Mac made a fantastic trade with Sheldon Richardson to even put us into position to do this (while also securing a dependable WR our rookie could lean on). Three second rounders is a price certainly, but we have not mortgaged the future. We did not give up any additional 1st rounders beyond the one we moved up from, which for the 3rd pick is a miracle.

Mac can still screw this up by making a bad pick, but man I appreciate the attempt. If Mac gets this right, and it's a big if, then he will have finally reversed the fortunes of this franchise after far too long of suffering shit QB play. We won our only Super Bowl on the back of our superstar QB and have had little to show for it since, while another superstar QB has torn up our division for far too long.

It cannot be underestimated what a true franchise QB means to an NFL team. This may be 1999, but you have to give credit to our GM for trying rather than taking the Browns former moneyball approach to everything.

MJK & Edge, I totally agree. The team has to make a move for a QB, and this is the right move.

I just think this particular crop of QB prospects is very much a product of hype, and this class isn't going be that good. That doesn't mean the Jets should put off drafting a QB. My preference would have been for the Jets to have made this move several years ago instead of this year. It didn't play out that way, so we are going to roll with this. Better to take the shot now rather than put it off. I wouldn't have traded up, because I don't think any of these guys is worth the trade--but I probably would have taken a chance on a QB at 6 or traded down and taken Jackson or Rudolf a little later in the 1st.

on the record for how their careers will turn out.....

    1. darnold
    2. allen
    3. mayfield
    4. rosen

IMO there is a decent chance allen becomes the cream of the crop.

You saved me having to type it all out. That's very, very close to where I am at this point.

Based on the trade up to #3 the Jets should get one of the top 2 QB's in the class and might have to settle for Darnold - which wouldn't be a disaster at all.

For myself, if it's not May/Ros the old rationalization process will HAVE to set in i.e. That Mr Mac knows something MORE than us collectively (fingers crossed)

Sorry, viable options for the Jets at #3 are in green, the ones in red I don't feel will be in play for the Jets.

I know everybody has been long awaiting my rankings of the 4 QB's

    1. Rosen- best QB imo, will do fine in Ny
    2. Mayfield- perfect NY QB, plus I love accurate guys
    3. Darnold- would be thrilled with him too, not sold on him in this market but not much seperates the three for me.

    4. Lauletta- 90 times safer then Allen Imo, Allen is my 6 after Jackson
