They have made a huge effort to fix their defense....they should be a playoff team next year as long as Eli Manning keeps progressing.
Very nice signing for the Giants. They really did a good job of not letting the draft picks they gave up for Eli stand in the way of improving their team.
Giants didn't overpay for anything. Right now you're going to hear alot of chest pounding and victory signs coming out of the Poston/Lavar camp. But I'm betting when the specifics are finally [quietly] revealed regarding the actual guaranteed portion of the contract it will be far more reasonable. Right now it sounds like 11 million amortized through-out the life of the 7-year deal. We also have no clue right now how this contract is structured. How much is backloaded? How much is incentive? My guess is the Giants are not stupid enough to hold out this long just to cave in down the stretch.
Huge fan of Lavar, so I'll have to root for him even while he's on the Giants. Now they need to add a DB or a DT in the draft and their defense will be set. We'll have to see if Umenyiora is for real, if Madison is the cover guy he once was, and if guys like Nick Greisen, Kendrick Allen, William Joseph, and Reggie Torbor are good enough to be starting. The NFC East race is going to be one of those where they all finish 11-5 or 10-6 and there's a shitload of tiebreakers to get one team in.
Arrington has physical with Giants Free-agent LB might be on verge of signing with team Posted: Thursday April 20, 2006 5:09PM; Updated: Thursday April 20, 2006 5:09PM Free E-mail AlertsE-mail ThisPrint ThisSave ThisMost PopularRSS Aggregators EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- LaVar Arrington took a physical for the New York Giants Thursday, one indication that the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker might be on the verge of signing with the team. Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi said Arrington came to the New York area to take the physical. Arrington also visited the team March 11-12, but at the time, the 27-year-old declined to submit to an examination of his surgically repaired right knee. Accorsi declined to go into detail, including where the physical took place or the results. "He has had a physical with us," Accorsi said. "That's all that's taken place. If this triggers another round of hysteria, it will be inaccurate just like the last round. Nothing has happened in the negotiations. Obviously, you're not even going to think about a player without a physical examination. Now we have that." Arrington was the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2000 and during his career at the Redskins made three straight Pro Bowl appearances. But he injured his knee in 2004 and saw only limited playing time that year and also had differences with the Redskins about playing time and playing style. He finally bought out his contract for $4.4 million, but failed to get offers for close to the money he was asking. The Giants, short on depth at linebacker, have been one of the teams interested, along with Miami, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Green Bay. Arrington is thought to prefer the Giants because they are in the same division with the Redskins and because their middle linebacker, Antonio Pierce, is a close friend from their days together in Washington and has been pushing them to sign him.. The Giants did add to their linebacking corps by signing Brandon Short on Wednesday. He started for the Giants for three seasons before signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent in 2004. The Panthers released him last month.
This is such a kick ass move. Linebacker was the major weakspot of this team all last season, but not anymore. First they added depth (Brandon Short) and now a superstar. When Arrington wants to play the game right, he's a gamechanger. And with his friend Antonio Pierce playing MLB, he may actually be more disciplined on the field. It also gives more freedom in the draft to go for the best player available instead of taking a LB. I'm pretty excited now.
No havent seen nothing on tv or sports sites it sounds like a rumor . All I heard was hes taking a physical
So who are the Giants targetting in the first round now. Is its still a LB like Ryans or Carpenter? Or are they satisfied there?
EA played this one good. He didnt cave for any stupid requests and stood strong. I heard the contracts were incentive ladden so if thats true good job for EA. Hopefully now we can either go Cromartie, LB, or Moss, which some people been saying and DT in the 2nd round. Plus we managed to steal another LB from the Skins, whose fans are pretty nervous now.
