    Hi everyone,

I know absolutely nothing about fantasy baseball, nor have I participated in it since 2001 so I am very behind. I just drafted a team in a money league ($250 buy in) and I was drunk when I drafted the team so I think I made some very bad picks.

Please help me figure out what to do with this team... who do I move, what should I try to acquire... who do I keep, etc.... Thanks... here's the team (8 team league):

    C - Joe Mauer
    1B - Mark Teixeira
    2B - Rickie Weeks
    3B - Chone Figgins
    SS - Rafael Furcal
    OF - Carl Crawford
    OF - Jason Bay
    OF - Ichiro Suzuki
    DH - Todd Helton

    SP - Roy Halladay
    SP - John Smoltz
    SP - Mark Prior
    RP - Mariano Rivera
    RP - Keith Foulke
    SP/RP - Curt Schilling

    B - 3B Troy Glaus
    B - SS Julio Lugo
    B - 3B Chipper Jones
    B - 1B Chad Tracy
    B - C Jason Kendall
    B - SS Nomar Garciaparra
    B - SP AJ Burnett

Any help that could be provided would be appreciated... thanks!

To be honest, this is a rather good team.

I would drop Nomar and pick up a good starting pitcher. Burnett and Prior will miss their first two starts.

Nomar's good to keep because in most leagues he has 3B/SS eligibility and will add 1B this year.

Yeah I just realized both Prior and Burnett are starting the year on the DL so I have to find some decent pitching depth.. Are there any hidden diamonds in the rough this year? Especially at closer?

Justin Velander, Matt Cain, Francisco Liriano, Scott Olsen, Eric Bedard, Oliver Perez could have slipped through the cracks as well. For closers I would say Chris Ray, Mike Gonzalez, Ambiorix Burgos and Joey Devine could be in the waivers bin.

Schilling was just named the opening day starter, so that's one less SP void you have to fill.

Thats a good team, if I was you I'd start Chipper over Figgins because you'll get more than enough steals with Furcal, Crawford, Ichiro, and Weeks and you need some more power.

Chone is one of the premier picks in any league, it's hard to justify benching him.

Out of interest, in the one fantasy baseball draft I managed to attend and not autodraft I wound up with:

    C: J.Mauer (Min)
    1B: P.Fielder (Mil)
    2B: C.Figgins (Ana)
    3B: N.Garciaparra (LAD)
    SS: J.Lugo (TB)
    OF: C.Crawford (TB)
    OF: A.Jones (ATL)
    OF: S.Podsednik (CWS)
    Util: S.Hillenbrand (Tor) (1B/3B)
    BN: X.Nady (NYM) (1B/OF)
    BN: C.Barmes (Col) (SS)
    BN: A.Kearns (Cin) (OF)

    SP: M.Buerhle (CWS)
    SP: J.Schmidt (SF)
    RP: E.Gagne (LAD)
    RP: R.Dempster (CHC)
    P: M.Mussina (NYY)
    P: J.Weaver (Ana)
    P: E.Loaiza (Oak)
    BN: D.Lowe (LAD) (SP)
    BN: K.Rogers (Det) (SP)

Good speed but lacking in power. No way does Jones have the same kind of power output as he did last year.
I do not like your pitching staff at all. You really dont what you will get from Schmidt, Mussina or Gagne. Rogers and Loaiza are time bombs that might win some games but there K's will be low and ERA and WHIP high.
Sorry man, but you really might be in for a very tough year.

I agree, you have to go younger with your pitching. Try like a Doug Davis or Capauno from Mil - he will have alot of K'S this year. Try and pick up Clint Barnes - he plays ss in col. he is going to have a break out year. Someone with a little risk is Matt Cain from SF - hes a starting pitcher and is supposed to be the next big thing. Your pitching is on the verge of crumbling - make a move

Speed you are set but you are lacking in power, you are strong with your starters if they are healthy but that is very risky with their histories, as for your closers Rivera is a lock but Foulke is a big question mark, so you'll need another closer

Depends on if it is daily or weekly moves. If it is daily moves it is easier to get players in and out. If its weekly you just try to go with who has the best matchups and the hot hand.

    C AJ Pierzynski
    1B Carlos Delgado
    2B Alfonso Soriano
    SS Miguel Tejada
    3B Garrett Atkins
    OF Ken Griffey Jr.
    OF Lance Berkman
    OF Brian Giles
    UTIL Matt Holliday
    UTIL Mike Sweeney

    SP Mark Prior (DL)
    SP Josh Beckett
    SP Tim Hudson
    RP Brian Fuentes
    RP Ryan Dempster
    P Mark Mulder
    P CC Sabathia
    P Derek Lowe

BN Fransisco Liriano, Brad Penny, Jarrod Washburn. Starting Washburn now until Prior comes back (if he ever does)

I know. Hopefully my pitching can do well until he comes back.

Considering that is an 8-team league, you should be able to finish in the top half and compete for the title.

I had a draft this morning. It is a 14-team league and had 25 rounds. It includes the regular 5x5 stat categories. There are two UTIL slots, five SP slots, two RP slots, and four P slots (I realized all that after the draft). There are 11 pitcher slots and I only drafted 10.
My computer froze right after I took Utley and right before I was about to select David Wright. I missed my next three picks. No big deal because
Bay, Hafner, and Berkman are good enough.

    Sugar Moths
    1. (14) Chase Utley
    2. (15) Jason Bay
    3. (42) Travis Hafner
    4. (43) Lance Berkman
    5. (70) Andy Pettitte
    6. (71) Bartolo Colón
    7. (98) Cliff Floyd
    8. (99) Derrick Turnbow
    9. (126) Melvin Mora
    10. (127) Jose Contreras
    11. (154) Clint Barmes
    12. (155) Armando Benítez
    13. (182) Jeremy Bonderman
    14. (183) Jake Westbrook
    15. (210) Mike Jacobs
    16. (211) Curtis Granderson
    17. (238) Austin Kearns
    18. (239) Luis González (Rockies)
    19. (266) Jeremy Hermida
    20. (267) Craig Biggio
    21. (294) Rod Barajas
    22. (295) Gustavo Chacín
    23. (322) Paul Maholm
    24. (323) Orlando Hernández
    25. (350) Delmon Young

Hopefully, Jacobs will qualify at catcher so I can drop Barajas.
I didn't know what to do with the Mr. Irrelevant pick. I would have taken Anderson Hernandez, but I already had three guys who qualified at 2B.
I took Young because he's the top prospect in the game and maybe I can stash him on my bench incase he does something good this season.

    I have Barmes there...

I usually go for power over speed, so took a different approach this year. It's a h2h league, so obviously I'm looking to certain categories over others. Pitching, yeah, not that great, but it was mostly picked up in the later rounds and I've enough there that a couple of trades or sharp pickups of surprise overachievers will leave me solid. I intend to compete in the league.
