Bowles saw that his extension wasn't guaranteed yet so Josh gives him the best chance to keep his job past 2018. Anything else out of his mouth is pure bullshit.
He doesn't care to evaluate them because his job is not safe. He needs to get every ounce out of aging vets so that he has a better shot of winning. That's why we see Forte out there versus McGuire, why Hansen and Stewart are looked over in favor of Kerley
He's coaching for his job and as of now I really wouldn't be shocked if he's gone. Eventually, the team is gonna stop playing hard because of these 4th quarter losses and that's when things will get interesting
Which is ludicrous reasoning. Play a young QB, and he develops but you lose and you can point to his development as your success. Play a QB with a career of losing and you lose, you not only have nothing to point to as success but you look like an F’ing moron thinking a QB who has never won anywhere would win for you and save your job.
You have to wonder what exactly is going on with Bowles. He's from the Parcells coaching tree so there's that to consider. He's mortgaging the future to keep his job but by doing that, holding the team back from a true rebuild with this "competitive rebuild" nonsense. The one thing Bowles has going for him is that the Ownership is in transition and Chris Johnson might be more open to maintaining the status quo than making changes.
To be fair to a degree, Hack does not deserve to see the field. But Bowles consistently shown that he would rather play a vet till the wheels fall off versus going ahead and being proactive. It's dumb but these are things that sway Chris Johnson to get rid of him.
This is all fan desire type drivel. It is unrealistic to think any competent coach would pull a Vet QB, who knows the ins and outs of this offense, who has close to a 70% completion percentage, and has kept this offense gelling even in despite of the losses. Over a young QB that didn't show much last year through 5-6 games, is young, lacks experience, and is injury prone from recent history of Petty. If he pulled McCown just to "evaluate" a young QB, just for the sake of evaluating, nobody would respect him as a quality head coach. Nobody would take him seriously around the league or the players in that locker room. It's absurd to suggest it at this point as a legitimate option. If McCown was playing like completely dog shit, sure, so it. He's not though. This shouldn't even be a serious debate for anyone at this point. IMO Speculation is fun but it's not realistic.
Fine... Let the Jets continue to play it safe. They deserve to be mediocre. This is Fitz 3.0 and if all you want is meaningless victories and mediocre stats, McCown is your man. I hope if the Jets continue down this road they finish out of the running for a FQB, draft BPA-D again and watch the rest of the league pass them by. 50 years of this bullshit and I'm all out of patience for mediocrity. If the Jets think this is the way to go, then they shouldn't get pissed off when the bar is set super low for them. By all means, keep playing McCown. Fuck the future. I really hope they don't draft any of the kid QB's as they'll only rot away on the bench. QB development isn't something the Jets do. I guess McCown really is the future of the franchise. He's having a career year so we absolutely should think he's our FQB. Worked out really well with Fitz didn't it. The Jets still are QB Stupid. That's just the way it is. 48 years and counting...
Ray Lucas, Mike Westhoff, and Willie Colon on SNY all were openly derisive of a question from a viewer about when Petty will come in, saying that McCown is playing well so you would never replace him. It just goes to show you how this "you play to win the game" bullshit is so pervasive in football, with both players and coaches completely unable to see the bigger long-term picture. Given how short their careers are, and how contracts aren't guaranteed, it's understandable that players feel this way, but you might have hoped that a retired coach with a long career could be smarter than that. This is why you need a strong GM/Head of Football Operations who steps in and makes decisions like this despite what a head coach wants. You don't see this in other sports - it's very common there to put in young players to see how good they are when it's clear that a team isn't going anywhere. One of the problems in football is that the season is already almost over by the time even bad teams are officially eliminated because the season is so short, but anyone who thinks this Jets team is making the playoffs at this point is crazy.
Do you remember a cartoon by the name of Krazy Kat and Ignatz Mouse? (hint.. Krazy Kat was the female..)
Exactly. This game is on coaching. When you are in FG range and you have your QB drop back to pass, that is on coaching. A run for no gain is a better play than dropping back your QB in torrential rain. The play calling was bad again. Yup, on coaching.
Its amazes me when things are going bad, that the fan base wants can't settle for being miserable over just that, they want to start a QB that has failure written all over him, so they can complain about OL the OC the HC the Wrs etc, it's absolutely ridiculous! If you want a true rebuild tune into Cleveland, looks like they're gaming for there next FQB failure
Buttle and LaGreca basically mimicked what Lucas, Westhoff etc said with respect to playing Petty. It seems no one except the GM and possibly some owners see and get the bigger picture. The reality is that the next 2 games are by far the Jets best chance for victories for the balance of the year. With Toilet on equal footing with Mac you can pretty much bet McCown will start both. If they lose both to go 3-7 does toilet make the move to Petty or does he still think another win or 2 will save his job so he sticks with McCown? If McCown starts against Carolina you have to wonder just how much influence Mac has with woody or his brother.
Todays game was a sloppy mess..for both teams As we progressed thru the season it may turn out to be a "win win for Mac and Bowles" Why? If we continue to fight and be in the rest of the 2017 games plus continue to lose by 3 to 5 points TB can tell the Johnstons that is "improvement" on his part Ending up 3-13 allows Mac to get another crack at a Carson Wentz blue chip FQB or move up and grab one if he has done some solid research and has a pair of balls Look at Philadelphia and the Rams !!!..no risk no reward come draft day the worst decision would be BPA/Defense but when will this org learn tthat lesson?? McGown is not a long term option...especially getting meaningless wins that screw our future...Bowles doesnt care if he has job security Mac does care but has his hands tied come the end of this campaign imo...no GM will encourage a "tank" 50 years and counting
"fuck the future.".that sums it up Fans want a Pats victory and 15 losses hahah Plus 10 million ..let me ask you this CMan why is it that a fan board can coach and manage better that the million dollar HC and GM?? Super pathetic....I have a nice Jets leather jacket that is gathering mothballs because we are such losers....does that mean i am not a "true fan" ..no just dont want people talking and snickering when i go food shopping //lol
