ESPN dug it's own grave with it's lurch to the left. I'm sorry but the Michael Sam stuff, calling Kaepernick this generations Jackie Robinson (barf) the constant stupidity from Stephen A. Smith and Bomani Jones, waaaay too much NBA stuff (and too much soccer as well) while completely turning its back on a real sport like hockey. The Bruce Jenner idiocy where they basically indulged his mental illness and gave him an award for it. A lot of their core was driven away. And instead of reorganizing and trying to recapture their old audience...they'r'e doubling down. It looks like they're going down in a death spiral of stupidity much like the New York Daily News. I mean just now..."Cowboys need a backup...why aren't they interested in Kaepernick? Bucs signed Fitzpatrick? Why didn't they sign Kaepernick? Just stop already ESPN. The entire United States of America is sick of him.
I disagree. Espn fell when they stopped being sports and started being entertainment. That has nothing to do with being progressive. Before micheal sam, before The proliferation of their talking head shows wws the beginning of the end. Most people who watch sports, want sports. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
The real problem ESPN has is that a day is too long. If they didn't add all the tangential crap to their repertoire they'd be repeating the hard sports news five times an hour instead of three. Just call it "inert ingredients," you don't need to pay attention to it.
They could have had shows that went into the history or behind the scenes of sports. There 30 for 30 is great. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
You get the point tho. The talk show atmosphere ruined it. They stopped using actual reporters and using big names with no ability to speak on television in a coherent manner. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
You may have inadvertently hit on something there. Just because a guy played some kind of ball for a few years doesn't make him a big name in any book but the ESPN book; they don't really have a bunch of stars but they have a bunch of viewers who fawn all over mediocre athletes turned into less-than-mediocre broadcasters.
Did the Oprah Network take over BSPN? . Nowadays I need a box of Kleenex to watch it - such cloying bullshit. .
I used to go to ESPN website on regular basis - that's when they hired [actual reporters] and features [actual analysis] with [deep insights.] They are all gone by now. I intentionally stay away from ESPN as much as I can these days. Fuck'em. They can die in a fire for all I care.
ESPN might as well change its name to the NBA Network. The only other regular sport events shown on ESPN are ACC Basketball, meaningless Monday Night Football games that run until 1AM, or meaningless Sunday Night Baseball games that run until 1 AM.
they laid off that insanely hot chick who had that viral video where she was a total bitch. That sucks.
espn only does 2 things at this point that i have any interest in. college football and 30 for 30. the rest of it i really dont care about. sportscenter used to be what you did every morning before leaving for work and every night before going to bed. not anymore, its too easy for folks to read a ticker on any channel or just go online to get scores and stories.
Interested in indulging in the true downfall of ESPN? Look no further than the travesty of a sports show they call "The 6" or "SC6." Lindsey Czarniak quietly ran a very good after work Sportscenter for at least a couple years. Highlights? Check. Hot topics? Check. Limited bullshit? Check. Straight to the point of what you needed to know for the day. Then what happened? Lindsey had to go and have a baby. So ESPN has a baby of their own and it's this absolute nonsense of a show hosted by Michael Smith and Jemele Hill. They think these two are edgy and can connect to the new generation of sports fan. I don't see how anyone can think these two are talented. And don't worry! Race is pulled into every single episode without fail. Not only that, but Uncle Tom himself tries to be an educated gangster on the show. Less having rappers talking about who their favorite sports team is and why, and the Raiders punter talking about his fashion sense. More sports. What is so confusing ESPN?! It's simple. Let's get some more of these guys back. And shit, go back to that old set while we're at it. Sportscasters aren't supposed to be sitting in comfy couches in basketball shoes & suits.
