. . . for a 2019 fourth-round pick and 2020 seventh-rounder. https://nypost.com/2018/10/23/giants-trade-eli-apple-to-saints-as-shake-up-begins/ Giants trade Eli Apple to Saints as shake-up begins By Post Sports Desk October 23, 2018 | 12:39pm Not that Eli. Eli Apple’s turbulent Giants career is over after the Giants traded the cornerback to the Saints on Tuesday in return for a 2019 fourth-round pick and 2020 seventh-rounder, ESPN.com reported. The move came a day after the team fell to 1-6 in a disastrous first season for coach Pat Shurmur and GM Dave Gettleman. The Giants selected Apple with the 10th pick of the 2016 draft, and he was a steady secondary presence for a playoff team that season. But he became the face of the Giants’ crash last season, amid differences with Ben McAdoo’s coaching staff and teammates. Apple was suspended for the final game of the season and was publicly criticized by safety Landon Collins.
Wow, didn’t see that coming! I was aware that he was a little rebellious but he is still a talented CB. Glad Giants are taking a no nonsense approach with these Bad Apple type players. (Sorry, had a little Jetophile moment).
I think it would have to be something like "Giants Trade Eli." Because there's no way the Saints would want Eli Manning.
not really. he's been pretty bad. mind you not full on bust bad, but pretty close to bust status. not the type of player expected from a top 10 pick. funny enough many thought it was a bad move taking him at 10 and a reach espcially with hargraves on the beard who many considered a much better prospect. hargraves went a few picks later and has been much better then apple since day 1 however is on IR this season. The giants were lucky to get what they got for him as the saints are desperate at CB right now
they can't with the mega contract they gave him. he is basically untradable and uncuttable for like 3 years
But, but, but, his stage father Archie was the Saints punching bag for years. That has to count for something.
If they got the 1st pick they would just trade it away for multiple picks. Might include a 1st in 2020 and they could tank for Tua!
Well, this should be a good test of that theory that says that you can't just give up in the middle of a football season, since that's obviously what they're doing. It's easy to understand why Gettleman thinks nothing of dumping all of Reese's signings, but it's pretty unusual for a GM to so obviously admit how wrong he was in evaluating the talent on the team after only seven games. I guess this Sunday is the last start of Eli's career? They're on the bye next week, the obvious time to switch to Lauletta, although that would mean making his first start be on national TV on MNF.
It's the players option whether to sign or not--it's not as if the Giants could claim him. And considering we're already paying him his full NFL roster salary (not the minimal PS rate), he might just decide to stay.
