Here's a couple of songs about drugs from back in the day. One from the Black POV, one from the White. Both messages eerily similar and considering what we're facing today, both messages are on point..Please give both a listen as you may find that we're not so different after all... and of course the Steppenwolf classic:
Could post these for days without reaching the end of the list. I have unfortunately lost quite a few friends to addiction and the songs we listened to warning about it, unfortunately did nothing to stop any of them. Even friends who quit before ODing still lost so much.
It fascinates me how each generation of music 50's onward had such similar forms of imagery including drugs as well as other vices. The musicians themselves all go through the same vicious cycle. Getting signed, doing substances of some kind, writing classic music going over the top with overdoses changing the music in the process and then sort of cleaning up their act & the music changing yet again. The one's who sold records all the way through & made it to the other side are the true legends. Music is a form of entertainment. As we see with reality TV there is an audience that likes shock value that is real, quite often not actually partaking in the usage themselves. In most cases it is written not to be glorified but rather to be perceived as any one wishes..including eye rolling humor or even outcry. Now if it's actually being promoted or glorified..thats another story. Opiods & heroin are a major issue.
