If Chubb is available at 6 and you already have your QB, you take him every single time. Unless Barkley is there (he won't be).
Centuries from now the experts will wonder, How did Johnny Manziel become such a brilliant field general? Who mentored this paragon of selfless dedication? Was it Vince Lombardi? Peyton Manning? Julius Caesar??? None of the above, baby.
I have no problem with McCown coming back as long as he isn't QB1. If he's mentoring Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield or he's backing up Cousins or even Foles, I'll be happy. If he's back to start and mentor Mason Rudolph or worse Petty and Hack, I'll be furious.
Agreed. I still think if they do draft a potential FQB, he's not gonna play until 2020 barring injury.
agreed. the jets could select a WR in round 1 and Bowles would bring back jerome Kerley and sit the round 1 WR for 2 years.
Why do people contribute to write these posts? Bowles starts 2 rookie S's but he doesn't play kids. 2 rookie LBs but he doesn't play kids. A rookie DL, undrafted FA WR etc, etc. He plays a very QB and that's the trend. Never mind that any HC would feel more comfortable playing a vet. People said the same things about every HC from Parcells on.
McCown is old, injury prone, and inconsistent. All qualities I dislike in a QB. He does bring leadership value to the young players, but I hope he is not on the 2018 roster. It would be a sign of progress. As some said, him backing up or starting as a 1st Round QB is groomed seems okay, but I would prefer otherwise.
This narrative of Bowles not playing young players is so beyond irritating. There are plenty of reasons to bash Bowles, that’s just not one of them. He desperately tried to hand QB1 duties to Hackenburg and Hackenburg fell flat on his face. At that point there was no other choice but to hand the job to McCown. As it turned out the Jets didn’t have another capable NFL QB on the roster and that was proven when McCown got hurt and Petty fell flat on his face. McCown plus Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield seems pretty damn good to me.
Because he doesn't play kids on offense. Yes, he played Anderson, because injuries forced him to. What other young offensive WR, RB or QB has he willingly played? No one.
Pretty sure they did as they saw Kerley steal snaps from Stewart and Hansen until he was suspended. There's no reason to defend Bowles here. Offensively, he doesn't play the young players because he's too scared to.
In fairness to Bowles, @Rextasy is correct in that he gave Hack every opportunity to win the starting job and Hack failed, if Jets had a young capable QB, I believe he would have started him because Bowles knows how important it is to have a good QB. Mac has failed big time in evaluating QBs and drafting one for Bowles.
You can’t discount Anderson, also Q had his breakout with Bowles. McGuire, Shell and Wes Johnson also got time. Not a great list at all but I think(hope) it has more to do with the pathetic amount of young talent on the offensive side of the ball than Bowles refusal to play young talent on O. This hopefully will be cleared up one way or the other this offseason as it’s time, actually way past time to infuse this roster with young offensive talent.
