    Good luck Oliver.

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks have signed former New York Jets safety Oliver Celestin to a $425,000, one-year contract.

The Jets waived the two-year veteran Feb. 27. Celestin played in 20 games for New York, including 12 last season. None of those 20 were starts.

Seattle lost starting free safety Marquand Manuel last month when he signed with Green Bay as a free agent. The Seahawks are still waiting to see if Ken Hamlin, who Manuel replaced as a starter last season, is fully recovered from a severe beating outside a Seattle bar last October.

Hamlin's doctors have cleared him to attempt a comeback this season, but the Seahawks have yet to make a determination whether Hamlin is fully ready. He spent six days in a Seattle hospital -- three of those in intensive care -- with a fractured skull and a blood clot near his brain following the assault.

I wanted the Jets to keep him, I really don't see why we got rid of him. It's not like he was making much money and he added safety depth.

I agree. Everybody loves Kerry Rhodes because of the omnipresent "potential" factor, but Celestin played just as well as him for most of the season. At best he was a limited starter but at worst he was a great special teams player and backup.

We've got 4 safeties already. Coleman, Rhodes, Washington, Maddox.
