Per Adam Schefter - Browns have fired VP Sashi Brown, the man who headed Cleveland's personnel department the past two years" Rosen's gotta be the pick at 1 after the fall out
"moneyball" just ain't working in Cleveland. The last Browns QB to win a football game on a Sunday??? and he hasn't played in 2 years!!
What a dumpster fire the Browns are - when you think you got it bad, there's always someone who's got it worse.
Also from Ian Rappaport - "Behind the scenes over the past few weeks, the Browns have privately vetted GM candidates - with eyes on former Chiefs GM John Dorsey" Had we had a severely losing season I was all in on Dorsey as Macc's replacement. Obviously that won't happen now but Dorsey would be one hell of a hire.
At least they have plenty of draft picks...but after passing on Dak and Deshaun, they obviously didn't trust him to use those picks anymore. If that's the case, makes sense to move on now before the next draft. Now, do they fire Hue, and make it a clean sweep, or have they decided that no one could've won with that personnel and give him another year?
Haslam is clueless. Not a great way to entice someone like Dorsey by proclaiming Hue Jackson will be the coach next year. If that is the case it's probably a non-starter for a guy like Dorsey. For him to even think about taking a job their he will want complete authority and that includes who his coach is gonna be.
At this point I think they're going to get rid of Hue Jackson at seasons end. You can't go winless while coaching for 2 seasons and survive, it just doesn't happen. Dorsey will have to be given authority of who he hires, or he won't take the job.
An owner who tells prospective GMs that a coach with a 1-27 record is untouchable is clearly totally uninterested in anything other than living in his own little world. I can't imagine that any prospective GM with even a slight hope of getting a job in the next year or two would touch this job with a ten foot pole. And grk, Haslam explicitly said that Jackson will be back in 2018.
I like how the Browns went full retad by putrifying their uniforms too. Seriously it is incredibly hard to be this bad and despite so many rebuilds and fresh ideas and new people to continue to be bad. Nothing works. Their entire football operation is rotten from the ground up. From the rookie part time scout up to the owner And you look at that division. They have miles to go to even compete with the thug Bengals.
The Browns are much closer to competing than you think. They have an excellent O line, a good young core of talented players, the top pick, the #7 pick ,a boatload of additional picks in this and the next draft and tons of cap space. They have been very competitive and have been in alot over very close games. Brown had them set up for success. Top QB and top WR in round 1 , shore up the defensive and add depth with the rest of the picks. Add in a couple of free agents and they have a very good roster. The coach is the thing that is holding them back. By 2019 they could very easily be the best team in their division. Second to Pitt at worst.
Browns just inked Dorsey, and he was the best GM available imo... Good move for Cleveland. Lots of people on this board keep insisting GM's need to hire HC's in football, despite all the evidence to the contrary. I don't get it. This isn't baseball.
Hue Jackson might eclipse Rich Kotite. I am keeping my fingers crossed. [As is my brother.] We've been having a major blast following the Browns - they are the only perfect team this season [at 0-13] and it looks like that is going to stay for some time. [LOL] They won ONE GAME in two years. If they go 0-16, they would be 1-31. [Now 1-27] That's unprecedented - even Kotite was not able to pull off 30-loss span in 2 years.
I was in the Persian gulf , listening to it on the aft deck with alot of the crew and I completely lost my shit when the pick was announced , for the rest of my time onboard that ship , my XO would bust my balls about that pick!
I know this is gonna sound crazy after the season Cleveland has had & the fact he's been fired but Sashi Brown really did do a genius job of aquiring draft picks. Cleveland is absolutely loaded with draft picks thanks to him. I think he deserves a second chance somplace else. That organization is such a black hole.
He left the Browns with alot of young talent, a great O line. A ton of draft picks and $118 million in cap space. Now if they replace Hugh Jackson they can turn it around really quickly.
