I had to do it,,so merge it delete it whatever but with all these damn head coach openings not 1 team ( not even the Cardinals who have ties to him ) have setup to meet Bowels ! How did this guy stay employed here for 4 years ?
I said the same thing in the Bowles thread . Which of our dummy beat writers was beating that drum, Manish?
My guess is that when all the new Head Coaches are hired, then they will consider Todd Bowles as their DC.
He’ll be a coordinator somewhere for a year or 2 before he even starts to get mentioned for interviews.
I'm surprised Bates hasn't been fighting off all those teams competing for interviews. He must be going crazy with all the offers.
I don’t hate him, He seems like a nice guy and I liked him at Arizona. He just doesn’t have it as a head coach, at least not yet. I’d be happy to see him succeed as a DC for a team that doesn’t play the Jets all that often.
Was he fired when Bowles was? If not, no one can be talking to him yet. Please don't interpret this to mean that I think he'd actually get offers from people. He's clearly grossly incompetent. I just don't think he's eligible for unemployment insurance yet.
Teams can still reach out to Bates, though we can block them. That's what's happening with Kitchens; teams have asked to interview him for OC but the Browns have blocked them.
Strange considering he reportedly insisted on a “quick resolution” after patriots game w ownership rather than wait till monday to get fired. There was talk of him getting a look at the Temple job.
Well to be fair he may have already made it known through certain NFL back channels that he's not interested in coaching at all in 2019. But if that's not the case then it's not really a surprise, it was frighteningly evident how poorly equipped he was to handle the rigors of NFL coaching. He failed at literally every aspect of it. From staff selection to motivation, to preparation to gameplanning, adjustments etc. That said I think if he does want to coach in 2019 he definitely catches on as a DC or defensive backs coach something, even though I don't think he's particularly good at that either.
Bates has not yet been fired. When a new coach enters he will either clean out the staff and bring in his own people in one fell swoop, or perhaps keep a few guys that really impress him (Brant Boyer could be one) Bates is a guy that will likely be outright fired. Very small chance he's kept in his current role or reassigned elsewhere on the staff.
That’s bush league. The Browns are keeping him “interim” and not letting him find something permanent. Bad business.
