Per the jets twitter account: Both Maccagnan and Bowles have been given contract extensions

    http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...d-Bowles/fc7ba7d5-5917-473c-86d0-3e73d31095e0

The New York Jets have extended the contracts of general manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles.

“We are very happy to have extended both Mike and Todd. During their time here, they have worked together to help the organization build a foundation on which to grow,” said Jets CEO Christopher Johnson. “ They are identifying, developing, and getting productivity out of our players. I believe we are headed in the right direction. This provides us continuity and stability as we continue to move this team towards sustained success. We still have a lot of work to do and I am excited to work closely with both of them as we move forward.”

Maccagnan, hired to his position on Jan. 13, 2015, is focused on building the team’s foundation through the draft. Named the 16th full-time head coach in franchise history on Jan. 14, 2015, Bowles instilled a culture change in 2017 and players continually praised the improved chemistry in the locker room. Working together, the Jets’ football leaders have drafted and developed key players including Leonard Williams[IMG], Darron Lee[IMG], Jamal Adams[IMG], Marcus Maye[IMG] and Robby Anderson[IMG]. The roster was also bolstered with trades for Demario Davis[IMG] and Jermaine Kearse[IMG] in the offseason as they both became key contributors for the defense and offense respectively.

The Jets will conclude their 2017 regular season against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on New Year’s Eve. The Green & White head into the offseason with financial flexibility and three picks in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft.

2 year extension likely means 2018 will be the make or break year for both of them. Big big offseason will likely make or break them. QB at the top of the list, playoffs or bust

Not a surprise. Well, an offseason with a ton of cap space, high and an extra 2nd round pick. No excuses if this team doesn't take a big step forward next year...

Can’t say I’m surprised, also can’t say this becoming official doesn’t sting a bit.

Not surprised, I have my reservations for reasons I've stated on this forum.

But I'm glad that they got extended together and if they fail, they'll leave together. Seems Woody and Co have learned not to fire a GM and force a GM to take on a coach he doesn't want. It's either both are gone or neither.

Do any of you really want Bowles to get his slimy hands on our next QB? I want a complete fresh start, new qb and new qb friendly coach. Why is that too much to ask

Yeah, 2018 will tell us everything we need to know. Mac needs to hit a home run or two in the draft and the QB question needs to be answered for once. Another one year rental won't get it done.

I dig the Mac extension, Bowles still has a lot to prove as a HC.

That would be one way to get rid of him, coaches can’t get away with laying their hands on a player anymore.

Wouldn't mind seeing them make a move there. Upgrading the OC was a good move last year, let's try the defensive side now. Question is, who are the candidates?

The offense seemed QB friendly. Bowles isn't calling the plays on offense.

This is one of my main fears. Luckily though, I would imagine Morton and Jeremy Bates will have a lot more to do with a rookie QB progressing rather than Bowles who still likely spends much more time on defense.

Depends. I'd think they would be more keen on drafting so as to extend their stay. New QB = extended leash.

  20. Absolutely disgusting & hopeless
