So far, it appears the Jets have been monitoring Teddy, hence the Mac comment above. They will continue to monitor his progress, but all indications are there are no set-backs, and he's ready to take on live reps. Just like Batman, you should have contingencies on contingencies. There are many scenarios the Jets could follow. Come TC, only 2 QBs should be getting the majority of the reps, Sam and Teddy with McCown getting the scraps. Hack can sit and watch. There is no room for him. 5 QBs is too crowded. Resource allocation goes to Sam and Teddy. So Petty needs to go, perhaps they trade him in a few weeks. Hack, you can keep him around, but he should not be on the final 53 man roster especially if Teddy continues to show progress. Hack can go on the practice squad.
What are you even arguing against? The only point I can see is "5 is too many". Says who? Both will fill the scout QB role. Not really a big deal.
I’m assuming they will hold on to Hack until they know that a.) Teddy can physically play and b.) Teddy isn’t horrible. They won’t be able to trade Hackenberg so it will be cheaper to just cut Teddy I believe. I honestly think that’s what will happen.
You think Hack and Petty have something to bring to the table, I do not. I prefer 3 QBs on the roster. I do not want a crowded QB room. I would prefer to work with a few QBs and provide full attention to them. Hence the allocation of resources statement.
I was thinking the same thing. Pay him, as the QB coach and in case of an injury sign hin to a players contract. I also agree in that he hasn't mentioned retirement and it was just a year ago that he turned down the Browns offer of joining their coaching staff.
we got Darnold now! Petty was a total bro, funny as shit, great personality, would get a beer with him ... but his time is up. Hack needs to go back to the playgrounds. IDK what his future is.
Best QB will play, regardless of tenure. That is how it should be. Petty should be released immediately. He can be a solid career backup for another team, but has no purpose here.
I don't even think Petty can be a backup. He's exhibited very few signs of being able to play in the NFL and the Jets coaching staff has very little to do with that. He was a mid round project QB from a school that didn't run a pro style offense, those kinds of QBs are out of the league more often than not.
But with all the players in camp, all the drills that require a QB, you don't want just 3 QBs making all those throws and burning out their arms. You need camp arms. On top of that, you're not even paying these guys yet.
What makes you think he can be a "solid backup"? To me he's proven if you put him in a game or games you're not winning.
Not looking to argue over this. I just feel he should be released so he can have a chance at a backup job somewhere. Game experience is appealing to teams looking for backup QBs.
I do agree that the earlier hes released it helps him. Honestly, if Teddy can at least take reps and give help ease the demands on the rest of the QBs this summer, 4 are enough, we don't need 5 QBs to share the load.
Yeah, Hack can stick around for a little bit (OTAs and such), but when it comes to training camp, you usually have 3 QBs on the roster no? Colts currently have 4 QBs on the roster, how long will that last?
I agree. We'll only need the entire group early. Before the cut downs start paring down the 16 or whatever WRs we have. I would think once we're into real camp mode.
Freaking 16 receivers, yeah Hack can def stick around for a little while longer. Maybe Petty too for OTAs / minicamp. I guess they have that other side of the field like another poster mentioned, the barren wasteland, surely Petty and Hack can play catch over there with the camp receivers.
He wasn't my first choice by hey, ill cheer for him and hope he succeeds. He's got to fix those feet and shorten that deliver just a little at least. If he can do that, he will succeed Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Still don't know what you are arguing against. I obviously know Darnold is our future and that his development really is all that matters right now. Everything else is a tertiary concern.
