Mayfield is going to be a steal in the draft. Prior to Johnny Football no quarterback under or at 6'0 was selected in the first round in like 60 years. My point is that the scouts overrate size big time. Its one of the reasons Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott fell. They weren't these 6'4, 6'5 big arm types. That's what Mayfield is. He is a very accurate, experienced, smaller QB who will get overlooked on draft day. I think we can get him in the 3rd round and I think he's going to be good. Not great! but good.
SI has him going to NO in the first round at #27: https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/11/07/m...o-49ers-sam-darnold-josh-rosen-saquon-barkley
I think SI is just trying to sell magazines. I would be very surprised if he's selected in the first round.
And there's a LOT of football to be played, and things that will affect the draft position, but I was just pointing out that Mayfield night well be taken higher than the 3rd round. Despite his "small" size and off field nonsense, Manziel went in the 1st...I bet Mayfield won't last past the early 2nd round.
I think Mayfield will definitely be a first rounder. He should be one of the first three QBs taken. His height is just a little concerning. If he was 6'4 he would probably be the overall #1 consensus.
I like Mayfield, I mean arm strength can be overrated at times, but Mayfield is pretty accurate and moves in the pocket pretty well. He's not as good as a scrambler or play-maker like Johnny Manziel, but Mayfield has way better intangibles, cannot question that. I've been liking him more as a prospect, the more games I watch. I still like Rosen and Jackson far more. I think the Jets could grab him with their late 2nd rounder, I don't think Mayfield goes round 1 at all. He's got a shot to go 2nd or 3rd. After watching a few games, I would draft him.
I could easily see teams rating Mayfield over Jackson. Developmentally, they wouldn't be wrong. Mayfield has much better feet, and he's got great touch on his deep and intermediate throws. His lack of velocity hurts his sideline throws, but he makes that decision quickly, thus the ball arrives on time. (That could be a problem at the next level.) The Oklahoma system has a lot of similarities to Sean Payton's system. If we're looking for matches, I don't think there's a better fit for Mayfield than the Saints. Things may chance between now and the draft -- lots of football to be played, for sure -- but assuming nothing major changes, I would not expect Mayfield to go past the Saints in the first round. But, could he fit the Morton system, too? Why, yes, I think so.
QB draft boards will be all over the place for most teams needing a QB, especially this year with so many polarizing but talented QBs. It's all about fit. Both QBs fit the Morton offense; both are ready to start day 1.
Overall I have a very favorable impression of Mayfield and would probably roll the dice on him for the Jets even despite being like 6-0/6-1. Biggest question I have now is the guy's character... Is this guy going to be able to be a franchise QB? I don't have strong evidence either way, but do know he made the news for an arrest not too long ago
I like Mayfileld too, but he is cocky and has been immature in the past. I think in NY he would have a lot of temptations which gives me pause, but he has been and is the most accurate QB and that is the most important stat.
The Jets will end up with a top 10 pick and I would absolutely take Mayfield without any hesitation or trepidation. The Jets, however, will take Josh Allen.
