That's good news. Although I didn't expect him to be up there with Mahomes, given his accuracy, along with the velocity, this makes him as good a prospect as we've seen in a while. That said, I would also say that about Rosen who I still prefer because he's more polished in a pro-style system, but honestly it's now looking like choosing between chocolate ice cream and vanilla - it doesn't matter which you choose you still get ice cream. A case can made for each being successful in the NY market despite their different temperament, and I would be happy with either, especially instead of Cousins or the other FAs.

I've been pro Rosen most of the way so far, but Mayfield is growing on me. I would be on board with drafting Mayfield or Rosen at this point, but I'd be okay with picking Mayfield over him. I would completely understand it.

I've been 100% Rosen, but the injuries, especially the concussions, are making me more apprehensive. Maybe I listen to too much sports talk radio, where they portray him as too smart & well-off to not walk away if he were to have more concussions. While I believe anybody should walk away after multiple concussions, I'm not sure you want to spend your high draft pick on somebody half way there.

If it weren't for his multiple concussions, I'd say trade whatever you can to move up & draft him. Because of them, I'm trying to convince myself to like another QB instead.

His father is a doctor, and both parents are highly educated, not to mention Rosen himself, and I'm sure he's well aware of the risks of concussions, so if he or his parents were concerned I don't think he'd be pursuing a career in the NFL.Again, I would like to see the source of the rumors about his attitude and being "injury prone". I suspect they originate from people who want to see their guy taken before Rosen

I'm still leaning towards Rosen, but wouldn't be unhappy with Mayfield. I just hope Macc has the balls to go after either one of them and get him.

My fear in this process is that Mac and Bowles will prefer someone who is more corporate (like Christian Hackenberg) over someone who is not afraid of who they are, makes no effort to hide it, and is completely and utterly obsessed with their chosen role in life, which in this case is to play football and be awesome at.

Can they be THAT stupid.???..oh wait...

This is like a traumatic flashback to Garropolo visiting and Idzik letting him walk...to NE..ugh ( I am still WAY UPSET how John I let that happen!!! Can you imagine if we had Jimmie now???)

If Mac doesn't get aggressive after the Cousins thing is over Denver will grab the 3 spot if we don't hustle

“Baker Mayfield Reportedly Aced His Combine Interviews, Alleviated Character Concerns”

    By Ryan Wilson

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...bine-interviews-alleviated-character-concerns

    ***START***

Here's how the Browns began their combine interview with Baker Mayfield. Before the formal introductions, general manager John Dorsey straight-up asked the Heisman Trophy winner, "So you like food trucks?"

TheMMQB.com's Robert Klemko unearthed this nugget in his recent story on Mayfield's combine experience and the significance of Dorsey's words is that Mayfield was arrested in February 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after an altercation that took place near a line of food trucks. And he has repeatedly had to answer questions about the incident because teams want to know if he's an immature knucklehead or 22-year-old who has learned from the experience.

But three offensive coaches who interviewed Mayfield at the combine told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot that despite questions about arrests and food trucks, the former Oklahoma quarterback "nailed the interviews and alleviated character concerns."

One said Mayfield came across as a player who's had to to fight and scrap for everything he has, including walking on at both Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Another said he was 'very good, outgoing, easy to talk to and displayed the qualities of a leader.''
And concerns about Mayfield, who has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel, being aloof were also assuaged.

"He came off really well," a third coach told Cabot. "Not arrogant at all. I like him."

Cleveland, as is almost always the case this time of year, is in the market for a franchise quarterback. And after passing on Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson in 2016 and 2017, there's no way they don't draft a quarterback this time around. The Browns have the first and fourth picks in the draft, which means there's no one between them and "their guy." All that's left is to identify who that guy is.

Dorsey, who was hired in December, seems determined to take a quarterback in the first round. At the Senior Bowl, he said Mayfield's off-field issues were blown out of proportion.
"Are there character concerns about him?'' Dorsey asked Cabot. "You guys create a narrative that you try to portray him as one.''

And despite Dorsey's "So you like food trucks?" introduction, Mayfield's interview reportedly went well. Put another way: The Browns don't scare easily. Former Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan was hired by the team as a draft consultant, and back in February, Cabot noted that McCloughan publicly praised Mayfield before joining the Browns, telling the Doug Gottlieb Show in October that Mayfield was his top quarterback in this year's class. But McCloughan, who was once a scout with the Packers, wasn't done.

"He reminds me of a shorter version of Brett Favre," he continued. "Tough guy. He can throw it. And he's very confident, and he's not afraid whatsoever, whatsoever. He's a battler. I know saying Brett Favre's a big name, and I was around him for a while, but this guy has talent."

In our first mock draft, we had the Browns taking Mayfield first overall for this very reason though in subsequent versions we've had them select Sam Darnold. Whether it's Mayfield, Darnold or someone else, this much is a near certainty: Cleveland isn't passing on a quarterback in Round 1.

Watching his game film, I don’t think that Mayfield plays like Favre. I also don’t think that he plays like Brees or Wilson. I think his closest famous-QB analog would be Kurt Warner. Now, Mayfield is certainly more mobile, but his escapability isn’t a selling point. What he does bring to the table is being on-time.

Like Warner, Mayfield seems to be able to triangulate three variables: (a) the coverage of the defense; (b) when in his receivers’ route that they’ll be open; and, (c) when can he reasonably deliver the ball to the deepest open receiver. (As I’m writing this, it sounds all so basic. However, after watching Petty, Geno, Sanchez, Ratliff, etc., I’m not sure.)

Mayfield separates himself from other accurate passers because he buys time under pressure (unlike Falk), maintains solid mechanics (unlike Jackson), and doesn’t play “hero ball” (unlike Rosen). These characteristics also make him seem like Warner, who, apart from his Girly-Men time, was also cool under pressure. Also, going from a walk-on to Heisman winner certainly echoes going from bagging groceries to winning a Super Bowl. Compelling stuff, for sure.

All of this is to say that the film that I’ve seen supports draftnik's high evaluation of Mayfield. The knock on him might be that he’s a final product, which, in my view, might not be such a bad thing.

Regardless who we get for QB,we need to build the OLand grab at least 2solid WRs.

I am hoping that Mac has a game plan to what FAs he heavily targeting for. Hope he gets 2-3 Decent FA acquisitions to get the train going.

If we could land Allen Robinson, that would be a slightly risky but potentially very profitable get. He'd make the entire offense better and give a dependable target to our QB. Also open things up for Anderson, should he actually manage to get his shit together.

The oline is really where the Jets need to take a major step forward, by any means necessary.

Thanks for this great post. As someone who is watching football seriously for only like 10-12 years I am not good at assessing college QB's to see how they will transition into NFL. What you wrote above is what I saw when I watched his clips. I also watched Rosen and Darnold and at this point Mayfield is ahead of Rosen and Mayfield on my list. I hope he ends up with Jets. But like I said I am no expert. So if I fail I hope nobody kills me on the board. Lol.

Bitch, do I have to come over and watch game film with you? I will if you want.

Personally, I have Rosen and Mayfield as 1a and 1b.

Same for me. Mayfield 1a, Rosen 1b.

Let’s watch draft together if your schedule allows it.
