Am I the only person that thinks this gimmick is corny bullshit? I went to my first game at the new stadium against the Pats in 2013, and couldn't believe it when I heard the announcement come over the loudspeakers, followed by the half-hearted chant from the crowd. EVERY FIRST DOWN. Not only is it obnoxious, but it's flat-out embarrassing. We have to celebrate every first-down? Really? Must not happen that often. I just can't believe that I hear this shit at an NFL game. Do any other teams do anything like this?? It's really not helping our image as futile franchise. Not exactly sure why I thought of this right now (maybe from reading through the Fireman Ed thread and reminiscing about the old gameday experience). Oh well, just wanted to see if anyone agrees; it's been bothering me for a couple seasons now,
yes. I believe the panthers and broncos and a bunch of others do it too. the first time I heard it I was like; "oh we doing this crap now too?"
Yea that does sound pretty corny. It's like they are trying to force fan participation with a lame template that fails with other teams.
They do it at almost every stadium now I think, hopefully soon the games will be exciting enough that it won't be necessary to manufacture enthusiasm.
I agree its corny, there are alot of corny things in sports. But I do hate that stupid chant especially when we are losing out there 28-3 and they have that stupid chant being played
While this is done by many teams in the NFL..that's the reason I don't like it. We need our own identity and need to stop this generic bullshit ..same with the fukin Sweet Caroline.. Hate that damn song even though we've done it for a while ..
Many stadiums do this for their teams. It's not as bad as the Green Bay gimmick; they yell "IN-COM-PLETE" every time an opposing team throws an incomplete pass. Every time.
That's a staple for Boston, It's all the more embarrassing that the Jets do it, they've been doing it at Red Sox games since the 90s
The worst is Green Bay playing "Bang The Drum All Day." I am a huge Todd Rundgren fan, and I hate that f-ing song. Though I am sure he doesn't mind the royalty checks.
First time I heard that dopey cheer was in foxboro at least 10 years ago. Thats why i cringe everytime i hear it!!!! Makes me want to throw up!!
They should put a visual up of Santonio doing his ball-drop under the scenario that you mentioned to top it off...
Just about everything the announcers scream out at stadiums these days is lame. I'm there to watch a sporting contest, not listen to some idiot try to get the crowd 'into it'. But then I'm just crossing over into the 'middle-aged and disillusioned' stage of my life. God knows what will happen when I hit 'old and bitter'...
