There still massive brawls in the stands when the Rangers play the Isles these days?

Good shot and deflection by Hickey and Beauvillier. They needed that!

Atrocious, absolutely disgusting. To add insult to injury Michalletti talking about Rangers PK is like Pierre talking about the Penguins, it’s painful to listen to.

Beauvillier completes the hat in two periods. 5-3 good guys. Eighth player in Islanders history to record a hat trick at age 21 or younger (Bossy - 4; Trottier - 3; Tavares - 3; Brent Sutter - 2; Denis Potvin -1; Lafontaine - 1; Barzal - 1).

And Clutterbuck ices it with the empty net goal. Eighth straight win against the Rangers.

Always a pleasure to beat those guys, even if we let them back in it.

They mentioned that islanders are 3rd in the NHL in GA so far, amazing that a team which allows the 3rd fewest GA they seam to struggle to hold on to leads.

Not sure if it’s lack of depth, playmakers or still learning system but watching some of these games is painful with how they get dominated in they’re own zone.

Happy about the win just need to tighten up the defense a lot more.

It seems that putting Beauvillier on 3rd and 4th line has helped to create a mismatch in Islanders favor. Filpula, Beauvillier and Kamarov have good chemistry and are tough to handle offensively.

Sometimes a kid like him needs to play with a couple vets to really teach him how to play the game. He's become more physical on their line and working harder to get the puck out of the corners. No more waiting around for players like Barzal, Bailey, Eberle, or Lee to get him the puck, he has to go do it on that line. He has to learn to cycle down low to wear the other team down and create chances. He really has to learn his defensive assignments because the vets will let him have it on the bench if he's screwing up. It is great that we have a couple guys like them we can put him with.

Glad we got two points out of that ugly affair. Also really happy to see Barzal get benched after taking a needless and selfish cross checking penalty in the third. That is the type of accountability the Jets have lack from this coaching staff for the last four years. My man crush for Trotz grows everyday.

I’m going to side with still learning the system and shaking the bad defensive habits from the last couple of years. The key has been the goaltending coming up big as we still give up tons of shots.

Great Post Harp, seriously. It really encompasses how all Islander fans feel about Beauvilliers play and Trotz as HC.

That is a part of it but Lou needs to upgrade the talent. Trotz's system worked really well with the Preds and Caps but those teams also had better rosters than the Isles. Once the Isles learn the system and the talent gets upgraded than we(fans) are really going to enjoy Isles hockey.

Trotz has been very vocal about not caring about shots on goal, but I think the Rangers losing yesterday demonstrated why that can be dangerous - a seemingly unthreatening shot is suddenly a goal when it's deflected. There's no complaint to be made at this point given the performance and the talent level, but you can't count on scoring 6 goals (not counting the empty net goal) every game, especially when you don't have an Ovechkin on your side. I'll be happier when they're being outshot by 5 shots a game rather than 10 shots a game.

I agree with trotz on his theory. To say he simply does not care about shots on goal is not completely true. What he does not want to see is uncontested shots from the outside or the point. He wants quality scoring chances or to cycle the puck and try to get something open instead of just firing at the net because you can. Part of this theory comes from Mitch Korn who does not want opposing goalies seeing lots of easy shots early so they can get in a rhythm and build confidence and he wants the opposite from the islanders team for his goalies, force shooters outside and let them shoot if they want. Shots on goal, as well as Corsi nad PDO and other stats that use them, can be easily misleading. Sure 1 out of every 500 or so unobstructed wristers from the point are going in, but its a horrible choice to shoot one. Trotz wants high quality plays not high quantity of stats on the board.
