The NFL fined San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Antonio Garay $15,000 for hitting New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady below the knee last Sunday, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The hit happened in the third quarter of the Patriots' 35-21 victory when Garay reached out his left arm into Brady's left knee. The Patriots quarterback ended up on the ground, his back arched and legs bent. Brady, who escaped unscathed, on Monday credited the brace he was wearing on the knee for protecting him from a potentially devastating injury. "I'm glad I had a knee brace on," Brady said in his weekly appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI. "Those are scary when you've been through those ones before. He got me in a good spot and I'm glad the knee brace took the brunt of the force. Why I never wore a knee brace before (his season-ending ACL injury in 2008) I have no idea and why every quarterback doesn't wear one on their left knee I have no idea. It's just so unprotected."
This. Robinson was fined $40,000 I believe for his hit on Maclin. Maclin was fine. Most fines are on players for hits that did absolutely nothing, but were still against the rules anyways. Very few fines actually end up on plays that injured someone.
No, but unless the player has a history of dirty hits, I think $15,000 is an excessive fine considering there was no injury.
It was on Brady I am suprised they didn't take this guys first born! But I guess it could have been worse the guy could have faked an injury and been suspended!
Raheem Brock was fined the exact same amount for a similar play on Roethlisberger. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...5k-hit-ben-roethlisberger-pittsburgh-steelers
Did you see the replay of the hit? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything online, but it was bad. The way the left knee bent... again... it looked like 2008 all over again. Not being overly dramatic here, but one of the Patriots hit Rivers the same way, I would expected them to have been fined for it.
I saw it as it happened and said to the person watching the game that it was a dirty hit. I can't stand Brady or the Pats but the fine was warranted. It was a dirty hit and Brady could have been injured on the play. I thought at the time ithe brace was what saved him from a serious injury, I think Simms said at the time that because his other foot came off the ground as he threw it saved an injury as well.
Just a still frame (still can't find a video clip) and doesn't show the leg bending after Garay landed on him, but here's the play...
i missed the game myself, but I would have to see the full play to judge. sometimes they get so much momentum these plays happen. but from that frame shot there it looks like a cheap hit.
Sorry, but that guy dove at Brady's knee. Wasn't blocked into him, wasn't knocked down. I'm sure if it was Sanchez, there'd have been alot of upset Jets fans. I'm surprised more wasn't made of it when it happened.
